I have Norton Corporate on a desktop here and I'm just making sure - it's not supposed to detect adware right?

Because I have this thing where IE opens up all the time (url is semanth.com dont go to it!) which gets annoying since it pops up a lot. Norton doesn't see it on a full system scan and Ad-Aware saw it two-three times, and not anymore (yet it still exists).

So, what kind of anti-virus and anti-malware/adware/spamware/etcware should I be investing in? Preferably one where I can set to not be so obtrusive all the time, does it's own little thing, performs very thorough scans and won't affect system performance when it's idle or will only have small effect when performing full scan.

I would strongly recommend you not get either of these programs.

For anti-spyware, anti-adware and anti-malware, pick up Super Anti Spyware and Malwarebytes Anti-Malware. There are links to both programs in the sticky. SpywareBlaster is also a good preventative measure that takes up zero resources; however, it is not a scanner so you should still get the two programs I mentioned above. Lastly, if you search around, you'll see that these two are the ones that are generally regarded as the best.

Avast is first and foremost an anti-virus program. I would not depend on it for anti-spyware. It is still a good free anti-virus program. Though it's not better than Avira.

    Hi Jin07,

You recommended about 3-4 programs in that post. I'm just curious if there's a do-it-all guy?

Also, avast! has anti-spyware and anti-rootkit included. I'm speaking of the professional edition, I am not looking for free software.

Good paid programs are NOD32 and Kasp. Their respective suites contain everything one needs (firewall, anti-virus, anti-spyware, and anti-spam).

NOD32 (or Eset Smart Security) or Kaspersky/Zone Alarm: great detection + heuristic!
