Hey...was just wondering if anyone's downloaded or tried this new plug-in from for Norton Intenet Security found at this site http://safeweb.norton.com/beta/download

What's differentiates it from the already-installed Norton toolbar? And is the beta version already stable?

Is it worth the download? Or will it just be an annoying pest while web browsing?

it's like McAfee Site Advisor but, unlike SiteAdvisor, it's only available to
    Norton Customers

Basically, it places icons next to your search results that let you know how safe a website is when Norton's servers completed their automated testing. (whether it spams, has malware, or is a scam) Green = safe, Yellow = caution and so on.

Clicking the icon displays a webpage giving you more information about a website, including the opinions of other Norton Safe Web users.

For example, here's the page for Notebook Review: http://safeweb.norton.com/report/show?url=notebookreview.com&x=0&y=0

It also places a button in your browser that lets you know at a glance the status of the site your currently on.

I'm not sure about Norton Safe Web, but in some versions of SiteAdvisor, if a site is particularly dangerous, it will block navigation to it. Of course, you can override this by clicking a button on the screen.
