I am using using NIS 2009 currently on my Laptop(Running Win 7 Pro x64). I have been pretty happy with it. It has a ton of options that I haven't even looked at. I just stick with the defaults. All I really do with it is do a full system scan frequently and I love the fact that it warns me with which websites have malware and which are safe with the green check mark/red X. I really need to upgrade to NIS 2010 but I missed the time when they were giving the free offers and I don't want to pay for an upgrade. I have the chance to get Kaspersky Internet Security 2010 and have a few questions:

1.) Can I still upgrade to NIS 2010 for free(looking for 3 license version)?
2.) Which gives faster performance(less hogging of resources) NIS or Kas?
3.) Should I make the jump to Kas from NIS?

    Thanks.

Get Kaspersky, I used it on my old laptop, and it was awesome, better then Norton, which I used on my old desktop.

    Stop the fanboyism thingy.

Just get either one of it. You're very safe with either one of it.

Take precaution on lousy AV like Norman, Kingsoft, AVG and so on.

Norton, Kaspersky, ESET NOD32, Avira, Avast, Microsoft, GDATA and so on have very decent protection. You don't need to doubt about them at all.

Based on my knowledges and some reviews, Norton is so far better I guess.

    Check this out, http://www.av-comparatives.org/images/stories/test/ondret/avc_report25.pdf
AV Comparison Test shows Norton > Kaspersky currently.
Sometime, Kaspersky will be better though. That's why I told you just get either 1 of them. Pure safe.

You can always upgrade to a newer version for free if your current subscription is active.

I would upgrade to the new Norton. It's done better on tests apparently, and it'll be free. No need to fork over more money when you still have an active subscription.

Thanks so much for your replys. I did a little reading since my last post. Like you said it seems I am eligible for NIS 2010 for free, but what I don't know is where to download it? All Norton's site says is that some kind of patch through the LiveUpdate will come down automatically for people wanting to upgrade from 2009 to 2010. I can tell you that I have been running NIS 2009 for more than 1/2 the year and I don't know what they are talking about. My interface and functionality seem to be exactly the same. Ideally I would like to uninstall NIS 2009 and install NIS2010. How can I do this?

Right, but that page scares me. It asks for all my personal information and says after the trial is over it will charge my credit card. I didn't know that the trial version can become the full with the key I have. Also I am not sure if Symantec is smart enough to know that I am an existing customer and not a new one. I don't want to be charged again. Don't like the way they have done this.

It must download the rest of the client, because 27 kb is wayyy too small.

I'm very partial to Norton Internet Security 2010. It's very light (takes less than a minute to install or to uninstall!!), and it (seemingly) does a great job a protecting my pc.

Just reporting back. I Uninstalled NIS 2009 and Installed 2010. Wow, 2010 is really great. Noticeable performance improvement over NIS2009. I agree with Mat, it installed in like 10 secs and activated in no time. I didn't even have to enter my key, which I had ready to type in. It also does full system scans faster. The color of the GUI is very nice as well. I am happy with it. I am glad I didn't play with Kas. Not saying it is bad, since I haven't used it, but I don't have time to mess with something.

Awesome! Glad to hear you like it!

Out of the paid Security Suites, NIS 2010 is certainly one of the best out there.

KIS 2010 slowed my not-so-ancient laptop down while NIS 2010 is super snappy. I would definitley recommend the latter with Firefox equipped with Noscript, ABP and Flashblock.

Common sense is still your best defense. :)

Kaspersky Pure rocks. I am not sure why it's that much faster than KIS 2010 but it did a full scan on my computer in 7 minutes while the NIS 2011 beta took 2+ hours.

NIS 2011 beta? Are you using a fake Norton product?

I have Kaspersky IS 2010 on a desktop and NIS 2010 on two laptops and a desktop - I've found that KIS10 is a lot more "tweakable" and is a bit more through in its scans than NIS10, however, NIS10 is much more transparent, system-resource wise. NIS10's updates are completely undetectable, while KIS10's updates consume noticeable CPU cycles. KIS10 also uses several times more RAM than NIS10 (including all processes for both suites) and seems to slow down boot more than NIS10.

Looks like the Kaspersky 2011 beta is about to start since it's already on the Kaspersky FTP server

If it ain't broke, don't fix it bruddah! NIS has been in the top 2 positions in every security suite review I read in the past 3 years. It's not perfect (what suite is?) but it's a great performer overall for the money. It's may be possible to do as well for a little less, but it's unlikely you'll do better for any price in it's category.

Oh, and don't forget it's gorgeous interface which no other application even comes close to.
