Norton's 2009 products are different beasts from their previous offerings. NIS2009 is really good, not perfect, but it's definitely not crap.

I'm not shocked by the $22 price here though. I saw NIS2009 at Costco a couple of weeks ago for the same price. It was $61.99 with a $40 instant manufacturer rebate, bringing it to $21.99.

    Norton used to suck.

I use both NIS2009 & KIS2009 and both perform well. I usually recommend Kaspersky to friends and family but understandably most don't like of it's interface. Despite 2009 being a big improvement over previous versions of KIS. This time around I will give the edge to Norton.

Norton 2009 is a beast. It's cheap because Norton wants to get a lot of copies out so people realized they've turned around and make AVs that don't suck anymore.

I agree that norton USE TO SUCK. Everytime I mention I run NIS 2009, ppl respond by saying it's a resource hog. NIS 2009 IS NOT LIKE NIS2008 OR EARLIER!!!

I run it on my netbook and have no problems.

I hate to buy software :) but the pickings were slim for security suites that support vista 64. $22 isn't bad for 3 PCs.

Yup, Norton's made a complete turnaround. I've used NAV and NIS 09 for a while now, and they're both excellent products - unfortunately, people who haven't tried it out still have a very negative view of Norton products.

Kaspersky (which I tried on my old laptop just to test it out) is undoubtedly secure, but it's also very very taxing on system resources. It slowed down file transfers on my laptop significantly, and its firewall is not very intelligent - it literally blocked everything. Secure, I guess.
