Norton Antivirus, NOD32 Antivirus, BitDefender Antivirus which do I pick?

I am wondering which to pick. I looked at screenshots and installation reviews of NOD32 and it looks pretty complicated. I have heard nothing but good things about Norton Antivirus 2009 but I am worried because a lot of people are saying of how bad Norton is. Is this a thing of the past? I read in a antivirus review that BitDefender was number 1 so what do you think of this?

My computer is very sensitive in the way that if I install a program that deeply integrates with my OS or a program that does not like one of my other programs then Windows Vista will load but the hard drive will stop a few seconds after bootup and freeze. This occurred with Norton Ghost and ThreatFire. Right now CA Antivirus is working perfectly for me but a lot of people are saying it is not a good program.

Which of these programs would be good for me. (I don't want Kasperky as it detects Lenovo software as malware and what not and it freezes on big files for me).

I dunno where you got the message that NOD32 is complicated.. it is simple to install, and has a pleasing and minimalistic interface. It seems to work well for me so far. I used Bitdefender for 2 years before switching.. it worked equally well and I felt more protected with it (because of its visible real-time scanner). From what I've read really quickly it seems like Bitdefender performs quickly and detects well, so you could try that.

Norton... and I am really bored of repeating again n again, how good Norton is now... *for more, just look down a few threads in this forum and u'll see more on Norton, if u wished*

Though I have read good things about NOD32 too (haven't used it myself!)

I read a response on a review saying it locked up someones thinkpad on installation. This bothers me... What do you think..?

Norton 09 if you prefer a paid subscription product or Avira if you like getting excellent protection for free (I'm cheap, LOL ;))

Why Norton, give me reasons why you like it or why you recommend it.

My relatives have used Norton for sometime now. They are still on 08 but have been relatively happy with it. I've used their PC many times when they had previous versions as well and noticed the performance difference when they upgraded from 06 to 07 and later to 08. Plus I've read nothing but good reviews on it since 07 on. If I wasn't cheap and didn't prefer to piece together my own security software suite (Avira antivirus, Windows firewall, Spyware Doctor Starter antispyware) I would go with it.

NOD32 installing complicating? LOL! It was like 3-4 clicks of "next, next and next" for me. It's the most silent and least aggressive out of the 3.

    Nod 32.
Version 2.xxx was a bit more complex (UI wise) for the average user, however the 3.xxx version has a new interface which makes up for it (but if you know anything about computers it won't be an issue to understand).

I'd use Nod32 Smart Security version as it's the best from my personal experience.

I also use spybot (freeware) to scan my system once in 2 months for potential threats (nothing so far).

And TuneUP utilities for cleaning/optimizing the registry, cleaning up garbage and all...

I really need to know which to get, Norton 2009 or Nod32!! It's so hard, people say NOD32 is going down and Norton 2009 is going up!

NOD32 is certainly not going down. In terms of resource usage and detection rate it's still among the best.

People say anything, Ive had lovely experiences with Norton until it couldn't detect an obvious virus in my computer which NOD32 demolished on install. Simple as that, both are good in their ways and you have to make a pick and go with it.

well, people say a lot of things... :) actually, if it is going down, it's not really obvious.

not too many AV systems were able to gain the VB 100% for all tests taken in 2008, only (in alphabetical order) AVG, ESET NOD32 and Symantec (Norton AV) - tested on windows server 2003 & 2008, win vista, win xp, and ubuntu linux server, all other vendors failed or did not try at all in one or more operating systems.

so, i'd guess that choosing one of the three mentioned above would not be a mistake, i'm personally using AVG. (the other one LenovoT61B asks about... BitDefender failed on both xp and vista, and was not tested on server 2008 at all - with vista, it missed some viruses, and in xp test, it detected several false positives, i'd probably *not* choose this one.)

Well, I will speak from experience:

I had Norton 2009 when I got my laptop.
I downloaded Kaspersky, NOD, Avira, AVG, and Avast.
Oh, and I used to use Norton Corporate edition from my university..

Norton 2009: Way too invasive for my liking. Bugged me too much and seemed to be everywhere I looked, as in there were Norton bars in IE and such. Kept bugging me about everything.
-------- I am sure you could disable a lot of it, but well, I don't like Norton to begin with so I wasn't exactly in the mood to do that.

Norton Corporate: Used it for over a year, turned out it used a hell of a lot of resources.

AVG: Didn't like it. Looked "cheap" to me. And seemed to use as many resources as the rest. At the end of the day an anti-virus is almost psychological and AVG wasn't doing it for me.

Avast: Used it for quite a while, but again, looked "cheap" and seemed to be chugging some resources, no more than AVG but no less either. Didn't have a firewall though, I wanted an all in one solution...

Kaspersky: Didn't bug me at all and had a firewall and everything... but was slightly heavy. I haven't tried the latest version, but....

Avira: Looked cheap. But used very little memory.. installed it on my sisters laptop. Installed it on mine, but for some reason seemed to slow it down.... I don't know why...... didn't have a firewall so I ditched it.

NOD IS: Doesn't bug me at all. Does what it does, including internet protection and firewall and I don't even know it's there. Looks pretty. While it uses up 37mb of my memory, it doesn't seem to slow down my pc.... while avira used less, it seemed to slow it down.... don't ask.

That's why I use NOD IS.

AND Malware Bytes Anti-Malware. IMO, it's the best program out there, period. I also scan with Super Anti-Spyware every now and then just for another security blanket.

So if you ask me? Go with NOD Internet Security. They have trials.
More importantly though, make sure you have Malware Bytes Anti-Malware (it's free btw, as is super anti-spyware).

If you want a free solution, I would recommend Avira. Paid? NOD Internet Security.

My vote would be for NOD32 (or NOD Security Suite if you need a firewall etc). I have used Norton, Symantec Corporate AV and NOD32. In my opinion, NOD32 wins on interface, ease of use, lack of nagging and low resource usage. :)
