Yay, first one to vote, now, chose NOD 32 just because I haven't had a chance to test Vipre yet, and I have used Norton Antivirus in the past and its detection is really poor, along with its other features, and being a resource-hog too.

Though, I prefer free antivirus solutions over retail ones, currently I am using Avast! 4.8 Home Edition and I am more than happy with it.

I am talking about it's 2009 version. It fixed all those issues.

Even after reading the review about Norton Antivirus 2009 and seeing the ranking it gets (3 Stars out of 5, 307 votes), I would prefer both of the other Antivirus Offerings over Norton anyday.

Edit: Added # of votes in the ranking.

Interface is easy to understand. It's fast as hell. Very light on resources when compared to previous versions (including 2008) which I think was a decent program.

And all the reviews I've seen say that it's detection rate is stellar.

To me it's one of the best products out there. And this is from someone who when they first heard about IS everyone told me to stay away from Norton and that's what I did.

I first tried BitDefender....what a nightmare. Then I tried McAfee. Waste of time. Then I used Kaspersky. Overly complicated for no reason at all. Plus it slowed my computer down to a crawl almost everytime I booted my former vaio notebook up.

CNET.com reviews, I do not really have hard drive space nor time to test out Norton 2009 on this old laptop anyway.

    Nod32.
Been using it for the past 3 or 4 years.
Light on resources, fast, efficient, and I never had issues (especially with the Smart security version).

Nod's been extremely good for me over the past few years... Only a few issues, but I had plenty more when I was using Norton before that. The added bonus of resource use is always nice...
Plus, they don't seem as friendly with M$. BIG PLUS! :D
(But, I still use XP... heh)

    Norton AV 2009 all over ;) .

NOD32 was superior last year (v2.7 which is now outdated), but this year, new v3 just su*ks compared to competition (Avira, Norton, Kaspersky).

Especially ESET Smart Security is terrible.

Having had occasion to try and use Symantec's support in the past, I'd never go back to them. They tell will tell you nothing, but immediately direct you instead to fee charging numbers, even for simple questions that aren't answered on the website, or else are virtually impossible to find. It's taken them years to address problems like the CPU hogging and System Restore locking, despite all the complaints. Here's the relevant part of the CNET review:-

"The bad: Despite its free telephone support, Norton Internet Security 2009 lacks adequate online technical support and, either intentionally or not, drives users to its paid technical support services."

I would not agree with that. I have been there with Norton Online Technical Support, on nearly 10-12 occasions in the last ~5 months, starting with having to sort out the licensing issue with NIS since it got messed up with the complete PC restore I had to do, to more recently for upgrading from NIS '08 to NIS '09, and I have had extremely wonderful support - Right there on top with the best online technical support I have experienced. The only thing was to wait in the queue to get an tech support personnel enter your room... Once he/she was in, it was great. Every Q was answered, every issue resolved, sometimes with instructions, sometimes with remote access.

And I am not the only one, there were many other members here who also had a similar experience.
