Just yesterday I had to do an acer full restore. A few weeks prior, I made a backup of my files using norton 360 v2 backup. Now I cant get the3 backup to work. I tried loading norton 360v3 trial, but have been told the backup will not work on the trial version. I have to have my product key. My norton is on the backup dvd.

Is there a way to use my backup dvd w/o norton? or even w/norton?

    Hi rosy6271,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

If you have a valid subscription for Norton 360, you are entitled to a free update to Norton 360 version 3 for the life of your subscription. Also, the restore feature in Norton 360 version 3 will allow you to restore files backed up with version 2. To update to Norton 360 version 3, please visit the Norton Update Center at the link below. During the update process you may be prompted to enter an Activation Key, at which point you will enter the key for Norton 360 version 2 to activate version 3.x.

    Norton Update Center

If you backed up the files to optical media, there should be a file on the media called "arestore.exe". Launch that file and you will then be given instructions on how to retrieve your data. If you used the online backup, just let me know, and I will provide you with the instructions to restore your data.

    Thank you,
    Mike

    Hey Mike

I was using Norton 360 on my sony vaio, backing up from C: to d:. The laptop died but I salvaged the hard drives and copied the backup files to my new laptop... but how do I tell norton 360 on my new machine to "see" that backup and those files? I oput the backup file IN the new laptop N360_Backup directory but that backup does not come up under N360.

    Cheers

    Alex

    Hi Alex,

Make sure that you have the latest version of Norton 360 installed on the replacement PC, which is version 3.5.x. If you were using an older version of Norton 360, as long as you have a valid subscription, you are entitled to a free update to the latest version. If you need to update, please visit the Norton Update Center at the link below.

    Norton Update Center

After the update has been installed, mouse-over the "PC Security" bubble and choose "Check For Updates". If any updates are installed, restart your computer.

Please follow the instructions in the document below to restore the backed-up files.

    Thanks,
    Mike
