I have always been a fan of AVG. Not only is it free, but it's been known for being light on system resources.
The other day I saw an ad in PC World that said how Norton 2009 is the fastest Anti-Virus on the market. This was a shock to me because I always remember Norton as being so slow and bogging down so many computer.
I went to norton.com/speed and according to their site, it is way faster than AVG.

is it really true that Norton 2009 is faster than AVG? Is it worth making the switch?

    Thanks

Norton IS 2009 is well-known great antivirus!
But make sure it is 2009, the older versions of NortonIS/AV are all lame.

AVG have no match for Norton.

    History of Norton,
Once upon a time, Norton AV/IS were all resources hog. They slow down the computer endlessly. However, with Norton IS/AV 2009, everything is different!
It is not resources hog anymore and do not slow down system!

    History of AVG,
Once upon a time, the AVG FREE edition rocks the world. With its unstoppable power, everyone who wish to use FREE Antivirus would come to think about AVG. However, its glory did not last any longer.
With Avast! FREE edition and Avira FREE edition made their appearance, AVG FREE edition do not stand a chance on them.
AVG lose to Avast! and Avira in both Protection and Resources usage(AVG consume a lot).

ok thanks for the info. That's a good comparison.
If I were to stick to freeware, would you recommend Avast! or Avira over AVG?

For free AV, I would recommend Avira 9 among AVG and Avast.

Yep! Because researches and poll has been carried out.
AVIRA ANTIVIR PERSONAL 9(free) is the best FREE AV.
Avast is the 2nd BEST AV.
AVG = I guess you don't need it

I would say Norton AV 2009 is miles ahead of AVG free edition, if you want a paid AV program.

Norton 2009 sure pawn AVG FREE EDITION.
But Norton 2009 need to pay.

So, just ignore those paid versions and get yourself and reliable good AV.
    AVIRA FTW!

Out of the two, Norton 2009.

Against every other antivirus, Avast!, Avira or NOD32 are best.

    In my opinion.
