I have been trying to figure out which to get based off different AV threads. Which one would you all choose?

from what i hear NOD32 is a very good choice, either way i would think you would be well protected...Also take a look at AVG, AVAST!, and AntiVir...All are way better choices than McAfee, Norton etc...

NOD32 is written in a more efficient programming language. It uses less memory and less system resources while still providing the same level of protection.

Kaspersky is annoying and stupid. NOD32 is for power users for sure.

In February, the above site gave Kaspersky an Advanced+ (highest) rating while Nod 32 an Advance, now they give Nod32 an Advanced+ rating and Kaspersky a Standard (lowest) rating. How can they change so dramatically in just few months ? This either means that their testing methods are flawed or that reliability of Virus guards can really changes in few months. If later is true then the purpose of those tests are lost. I mean you subscribe to a one service thinking that you are getting the best only to find out otherwise just a few months later. And we cant say anything for sure based on those results because in few months things can be completely different.

NOD32, although argualbly more efficient and less resource-consuming has comparable performance to KAV; and many would even say that KAV is more powerful than NOD32 in detection. "Power users" would use the most secure products available and could afford *small* performance losses if it meant noticable improvements in long-term security.

The February test was for on-demand protection and the May test was retrospective. Their methodologies were different, so the results are different. The Febuary test is designed to indicate how accurate the AV products were at the time of testing. KAV got an Advanced+ because of their high detection and NOD32 missed Advanced+ because of failure to detect a small number of samples. The May test was designed to show how powerful the heuristics of an AV are by using an outdated engine against current threats to see which are detected even without chronic signature updates. NOD32 is among the most powerful heuristic engines, so it received an Advanced+. The version of KAV used did not have sufficiently powerful heuristics to warrent receiving a higher certification level and in combination with false positives was the reason for the low level. When looking at test reports, it is better to first understand the methodology and the notes about the test rather than to skim through statistics and reach flawed conclusions.

NOD32 and KAV are both excellent products. You should try the free trials and pick the one you like the best. When dealing with excellent choices like these, the majority of people needlessly siding with one product over the other are providing input for a decision that really should be made by your preference, not theirs.

I have been using NOD32 for a very long time and I love it. I used to use Symantec before that and I hated it. This takes very few resources and is great at catching viruses.

BTW, Avira antivirus is better than Kaspersky, only because it combines the detection methods of several different anti-virus programs together, which is the only reason it ranks so high on so many different lists.

I personally prefer Kaspersky, its Active Defense has already saved my behind several times, and I intend on keeping it.

I think it's based on the review/on the paper. In reality, that's totally different. Bitdefender performs on par with AVG..For me NOD32 still do the best :)

Both kaspersky and NOD32 can work very well under Vista. My preference goes to NOD32 though. Very little to almost none resources hogs.

I would say that both are extremely good at what they do. If you keep the AV updated then both will offer your great protection. No single AV can offer 100% protection, so stop worrying. Use the trial period to find out which one suits your needs better.
I have been using both Nod and KAV on two seperate machines and both are working great. However, IMHO, I feel the lag with KAV sometimes when using autocad on my laptop, but with Nod it runs smooth.
Also, both the computers are running vista x64 and there have been no compatibility problems. However, the code is not native x64 as I see the *32 in the taskmanager in front of the processes.
If price is a consideration, then go for KIS. You can get a 3 user 1 year license for ~$10
