Is Nod32 Version 3 still the best choice when it comes to choosing Anti Virus Software that uses the least system resources? I heard that Version 3 uses more system resources than Version 2. Is it correct?

What about detection rate? Is Version 3 still good?

nod32 v3 definitely uses least system resources (no.. not more the v2).. the on-demand scans are fast!! detection rates are pretty good too.. on par with all the other AV's out there..
been a happy user of nod32 for quite a while, so i know the diff bet the old and the new version.. and its still pretty darn good!! :D

Arjunned, just out of curiosity, what are the advantages and disadvantages of version 3 over version 2?

well disadvantages.. i haven't found any so far... *fingers crossed*.. avantages.. well mostly the GUI.. its more simpler.. also scans have definitely improved.. one of my frnds tested v3 on a pc loaded with viruses and it caught every single one of 'em.. even some zero-day viruses..!

    o the ASW isn't gr8.. just average.. so i'd recommend other anti-malware like a2..

NOD32 user her for 3 years..

Version 3 looks so much better and still uses the system resources. I don't even feel I have an antivirus running in the background!

In contrast to other posters on here, NOD32 v3 used more system resources for me. Going solely by the memory usage of the two processes that make up NOD32, NOD32 v2.7.39 sits at approximately 30MB while NOD32 v3.621 when I tested it out sat at 41MB. Qualitatively, NOD32 v2.7.39 also seems to have a faster real-time scanner as opposed to the one in NOD32 v3.621 (especially noticeable when opening large compressed files). In terms of effectiveness of protection, you will have to research that on your own as I don't know, but I will say that NOD32 v3 is significantly more proactive than v2 with the same settings enabled.

I am willing to claim that v3 detection rate is on par with v2 if not better, but I have remained with v2 due to its lower system footprint.

The version 3 does use slightly more resources than v2. But it's very very hard to notice. IMO, the scanning speed also improved than v2 by a little though.
Anyway, so far I am very satisfied bought NOD32 v3.0.621.
