    Hi All,

    A few weeks ago major popups started to occur - 4 or 5 back to back. Everytime I opened Fire Fox another tab called "hotebar" kept opening.

    I uninstalled Fire Fox and Hotbebar with "add/remove programs" and Norton and free aol spybot / malware programs.

    Popups are gone BUT:

    When I open a doc in Word, I get the error: (Big red circle w white X in it). "There was a problem sending the command to the program." It used to have text but then it now opens up blank.

    Word also shuts down with a message telling me that it closed unexpectedly.

    Also, same with Internet Explorer:

    Your last browsing session closed unexpectedly
    -> Restore your last session
    -> Go to your homepage

    I click restore, it takes a few seconds and restores but this is every 10 or so minutes.

    I'm also getting other errors {I can send screenshots to anyoine} :

    --Microsoft Visual C++ Runtime Library

    --Big red circle w white x in it. Runtime Error!

    --Program: \Program Files\Internet Explorer\iexplore.exe

    --This application has requested the Runtime to terminate it in an unusual way. Please contact the application's support team for more information.

    Please help Thanks!!

    That is not a Windows Error - I'd suggest maybe a malware scan?
    Maybe that strange toolbar was actually malware...

    On the Word issue - it might be easiest to try to fully uninstall it and then reinstall it.

    I agree with DetLev, you've got a malware problem, not an IE or Microsoft problem. Your Norton doesn't seem to be picking it up (no big surprise) so you need at least one aggressive anti-virus app to help you out, to diagnose and correct the problem(s). There are many good ones that are free: Avast, AVG, Avira, etc. And other posters may have some more specific ideas.

    Most important though, if you decide to delete your Norton, you MUST use the Norton Removal Tool, otherwise, when you download another anti-virus software, you may have some really serious conflict problems. Here's a direct link to the download:
    Norton Removal Tool 2009.0.5.40 and you can obtain it from Google.com as well. (Some people suggest to even run the removal tool twice – and reboot after each time.)

    Good luck! I know it seems overwhelming now, but a good anti-virus will help you out!

    Thinking it over again - that symbol does exist - so I made a mistake there - but still, its rare to ever see it - if you do a malware scan:
    MSE - Microsoft Security Essentials is good (free :))
    Malwarebytes is too (on demand - free :))

    As this seems to be a malware problem, I moved it over here.

    Maybe damaged add-on?

    start, in the search box for vista/7, or click RUN in XP

    type in

    winword /s
    < enter >

    Error repeat?
