    It's time to post about the newest AV kid on the block, " Rising AntiVirus" from China, after also having read much positive user reviews on Wilders Security.
    This program is more than just the average AV product, it incorporates a HIPS (Host Intrusion Prevention System) also and it offers a lot of configuration options.

    Here are it's features;
    * Anti virus, worms, trojans
    * Anti Rootkit
    * Mail Protection (POP3/SMTP)
    * Application Protection
    * Proactive Defence (protects your security safe from malicious programs)
    * Application Access Control
    * Program Startup Control
    * Malicious Behaviour Detection
    * Hidden Process Detection
    * Supports Multiple Languages
    * High Speed Update Service
    * Support Service

    As this program offers extensive configuration options, it's meant for the enthusiasts among us.
    If you don't like Avast for instance with it's 'many' options then forget about this application.
    If you do like strong security programs with lots of options, then Rising Anti Virus may be just the program for you.
    The program comes at a fairly big 50+MB package but it does run light with 19MB resource usage (on XP).
    It's available for XP and Vista at Download.com; link.

    * Note that Rising AV doesn't go well together with ThreatFire.
    Although that's a behavioural blocker and not a HIPS, don't use 'm together.
    * There have been some issues with Rising AV together with SandboxIE, they have been partially resolved since SBIE version 3.28 ; link.

    Cheers.

    Edit.
    The most recent independent malware test results on Rising AV I've found, are from independent outfit AV-test.org.
    They are from March 2008; report link and summary link.
    Note, instead of viri, malware (trojans, rootkits etc.) has been tested here.

    If it beats AVG, I might give it a go.

    Nah, you know what's really odd?
    Hello Kitty Anti Virus!
    [IMG]
    Now, that's odd.

    All kidding aside, Rising Anti Virus is from a legit company.
    The Chinese market is huge, more and more consumers and (small) companies need security solutions. Kaspersky is doing it's best to get a stronghold there and that's also a fairly legit company.
    With almost more than a billion potential consumers, it shouldn't come as a surprise that the Chinese will more and more come up with their own products. Just like those from "Rising".
    Cheers.

    I think I'll wait until I see some results from AV Comparatives. Plus, I'm weary of products from China and would rather go with a program I know more about that works (i.e. Avira and Avast).

    Thanks for the info... It sounds interesting, but then again, it was China that exported lead filled toothpaste and other products....

    I'll hold off and let someone else try it first :)

    Looks interesting, but "interesting" isn't what I want in AV protection.

    Thanks for the information. But like most people here, I'll just stick with more known reliable product like Avira for now. I'll want to see how it compare to other products though. Go AV-Comparatives...

    They've actually been in the market for a while, one of my partners uses that back in 2006. Honestly, I'm not sure how good they are, because his computer still got plenty of spyware. :twitcy: But then I think part of it is because of his own fault for installing other unknown programs.

    Personally, I think maybe it's good if you're using a lot of Chinese language software and OS, since they might know more Chinese viruses than others? I don't know.

    I've 'dug' up some test results on Rising Antivirus.
    The results are from a malware test (not a virus test!) done by independent and trustworthy company AV-Test.org.
    Here is the report; link and here a summary from PCMag.com; link.

    We'll have to wait and see whether RisingAV will be included in the next AV-Comparatives test.
    They have been included in a separate test but that's an old one from February/March 2007; PDF link
    Cheers.
