    Hi guys...
i'm getting a new laptop this week...and i really want to get the best antivirus software i can..i heard ESET NOD32 antivirus is one of the better ones in the market at the moment...but its not free. however, i dont mind spending money on this software if it really IS better than the best free ones. please let me know wat u think on NOD32

also, i dont plan on purchasing the NOD32 smart security package which includes a personal firewall as i can get a good one for free, im sure...any recommendations? i use zonealarm at the moment, which i dont really like...anything really good, for free?

NOD32 comes with anti spyware built in so that should be fine...please reply!
    thanks a lot!

NOD32 is one of the best security apps on the market today, if you want the best of the best go for NOD32 AV by itself and get Comodo Pro Firewall(free). If you want something free and effective then go for Avira Antivir and Comodo Pro Firewall.

I think NOD32 is the best out there with Kasp a close second.

hey....im having a problem installing comodo pro firewall on my computer. i download the installer, i run it..and when i do, i get a box saying "in case you have any third party personal firewall installed, please un-install them before installing Comodo Firewall Pro. Would you like to continue?" Before i can move my mouse to click yes (after removing my previous firewall, zonealarm), the box disappears and nothing happens after that. i tried hitting enter without moving my mouse but it still just disappeared. it wont allow me to continue...is there anything i can do? thanks!

Uninstall Zone Alarm before your next attempt to install Comodo?

    NOD32 is great.
ESET Smart Security is hardly average :(.

    heshanj
Download Revo Unistaller v1.6 and wipe out Zone Alarm.

I'm in the exact same boat as the original poster. I do like the NOD32 + Comodo Pro Firewall idea from Calvin. I have a couple of questions though...

I looked at the Comodo website and they offer a free version and a PRO version that's $39 I think. Is is worth it to upgrade to PRO? I don't mind paying for it, if it's worth it.

If I go with this setup, will I be fully protected? On every front? Is there additional software I'm gonna need?

    Thanks for the info!!

And why would BitDefender be better then Kaspersky?
The link you provided, shows only that according to that review BitDefender is on par with Kaspersky, not better.
If you check these independent AV reviews from AV-Comparatives, you can see that Kaspersky scored better then BitDefender; link, link.

Nod32 & Comodo Firewall Pro (free version) is an excellent setup.
Just make sure you know how to work with the Defense+ HIPS part.
The Comodo help files and the Comodo forum offer all the info you need.

The Comodo Pro paid version with the 'A-VSMART warranty' claims to offer a near 100% protection package but it does come at a price.
You will have to agree to an awful lot of Comodo demands as on how 'you' will use the package.
Installation, configuration, diagnosis and malware removal will all be done by Comodo people.
This is quite a new approach towards a home user because it's like being a user on a (corporate) network.
Please make sure if this is really what you want. Read their license terms & conditions before you purchase this product.
    Cheers.

Did you read the detail review?

    http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/kaspersky-review.html

    http://anti-virus-software-review.toptenreviews.com/bitdefender-review.html

Same features, but I think what Kaspersky loses to BD is the price.

Personally I tried/used both and I prefer BD.

Also, the 2 links you provided, the BD version they used is old. "BD Prof +" is the previous version. How can they compare the current version of Kaspersky to an old version of BD? Seems like another one of those marketing campaign tricks imo.

Yes, I did. That's why I said they were on par according to 'your' reviews.

So, BitDefender is cheaper according to 'your' reviews. Not better.

Yeah, right. They tested an old version? BitDefender's Antivirus v.11.0.15 is from 2008.
Do you know AV-Comparatives? AV-outfits send them their latest versions to have it tested against 1.6 million malicious samples along with their competitors. Why would BitDefender have them test an outdated version?
And the reviews you linked to are from a non-commercial company and have nothing to do with "marketing campaign tricks"? :)

Do I know AV-Comparatives? What makes you think they're any different or less commercialized than toptenreviews.com, just because they're using a .org domain or they say so?

I never said toptenreviews.com is not commercialized, please read!

You keep on using your Kaspersky and I'll keep on using BD.

The simple fact that AV-Comparatives actually tests AV programs extensively.
That's what makes me think they're different.
Oh, and the fact that they don't have AV ads on their site or sell AV programs on their site.
The fact that they don't test games and review music and videos, music cell phones and wedding planning; the fact that they have a serious reputation.
Do the major AV companies send their programs to toptenreviews to have them thoroughly tested? I don't think so.
If that company ever comes with an AV-test with 1.6 million malicious samples, let me know...

Whatever makes you happy. FYI, I don't use Kaspersky.
Anyway, if you read in a review that product A is on par with product B but cheaper, don't tell people, A is a better product than B, just tell them how it is; that it's cheaper.

I did mention a few times that I tried/used both and said it's better "based on personal experiences". And my experiences are not only from my personal computers. One thing really good with BD is very low usage on resource, AV-Comparatives doesn't talk about this at all. And BD also has a much wider range of business products.

didnt check this thread for a few days..just to let yort265 know that im very happy with NOD32 + comodo pro firewall (free). i tried online armor, and i guess it was good...but it keeps popping up so many times, it drives u insane, unless u reduce the security level. especially during installation. comodo has a neat feature which kinda detects ur installing sometihng, and asks if u want to go into installation mode, and cancels out all those additional requests. i highly recommend it, and i dont see any reason why u need to pay for it. NOD32 is equally great.

and to ask something else, anyone got any good free anti spyware software u can recommend? thans!

Really? I had a completely opposite experience from you. It rarely gave me any pop-ups during the learning process. Almost everything was cleared during set-up (9-10 pop-ups for the updates to my various protection programs). Did you remember to click the remember rule in the pop-up.

For antispyware: Superantispyware, A squared, and malwarebytes antimalware. Check the sticky for links.

i got a lot of pop ups thru the learing process..and i did click remember...and i found it especially irritating when installing something, or uninstalling something...comodo is nicer in that aspect at least..i'll check out those software ;) thanks

EDIT: im going for A-Squared Free. seems to be quite popular, and i like it so far ;)

You can't go wrong with either Kaspersky or NOD32. I always stay away from trying to claim one is better than the other because nobody truly knows. They'll both do a hell of a job for you. We can all agree on that.
