Hi McGrady, I have tried finding information about this on their site...
Where did you see the info pointing to this change?

What do you mean by shareware? You've always been able to buy the full time version with a one time fee, same as SAS

Any download link you go to now to dl MBAM, says its shareware. It used to be freeware. The site has new buttons to, for downloading the trial version or buying the full version.

What are you talking about? It was like SAS. It had a FREE version and a Paid version, The paid version got you the real time scanning. Now, there is no "free version." It's shareware now.

I think it's more of a semantics issue.
MBAM calls the standard download a "free trial version" while MajorGeeks calls it "shareware".
I don't consider it to be a trial version because only purchasing ' the full version unlocks realtime protection, scheduled scanning, and scheduled updating.'.

There is no period to experience the real-time functionality for free e.g. no trial period.
Shareware means that certain functionality/ies aren't available after a certain period.
The free version of MBAM continues to offer the standard features, also here there is no time limit or ending functionalities.
    Cheers.

Download the trial version, that is the free one. The full version is the one with on demand protection and other stuff.

So, the trial version is still like the free version before it became shareware?

The trial version is still the free version, I think now they are trying to trick people into thinking they need to pay for it (because of the recession?).

I don't know what mbam is thinking, but it seems "trial version" is the free version. No clue why they renamed it to trial version...tricking people into buying it

I think you need to look again. There's a free (trial) version of Malwarebytes that has on demand scanning and manual updates. The paid version has real time protection, scheduled scans and auto updates. Same as SAS.

I think you need to read what I said again. Real-time scanning is different than on-demand scanning. The paid version get for both SAS and MBAM get you real-time scanning.

I know perfectly well how they work, I have SASPro and MB free. Apparently the only difference is MB free version is now called trial. The free version of MB has never had real time protection. If you want that you need to pay a one time fee like always did.

    Yes I know...

I think MBAM threw us all off by adding "Trial Version" and sites who host their downloads as "Shareware."

But really the new "Trial Version" is still the "Free Version", it does not expire.

MBAM should follow SAS's lead and offer the full version lifetime license when manually updating for $20. I bit, I'm sure others would too.

trial versions are the free versionis. free versions do not have all the features.
paid version has all the features and can be updated time to new changes.

trail version can not be updated. paid version can be updated.

    Randdy, that's utter B.S.
You working for a company that offers 'support' is one thing but don't expect folks to appreciate your level of support if you keep this up.
The free version of MBAM can be updated (signatures) and the program it self updates flawless if a new version is available.
    Cheers.
