No, once you use a trial key or a pre-installed trial program, you may not re-use.

However, to be perfectly honest, just use the free version since its what the average user really needs.

To be even more perfectly honest, switch to Microsoft Security Essentials.

Who says so? If you're using the Avast! Free Antivirus you can register again anytime and the expiry will renew itself..

If you want to use an Avast paid version and install it to make use of a trial period, I see no reason why you can't on a fresh installed PC.
The paid version offers 'safe online banking and shopping' and virtualization by the Avast AutoSandbox.
You can achieve pretty much the same though with a combination of other free products.
Take a look at Avast free version and free Sandboxie or MSE and free Sandboxie.
Just make sure your OS is supported; Only Win7 64 SP1 RC is supported atm. regarding Avast sandbox. link

    No,
    Trial means Trial.
you can not get another free trial.
unless you format the hard drive then reinstall the operating system.

if you like avast then use the free version.

you can not get a better anti virus with anti spyware system for free.
it has many features you will have to pay for in other systems.

    don't forget to register avast.com
or you will only have it for 30 days
by registering you will get a licence for a full year.
just re-register at the end of the year to get another one year licence.

if you do not like the look of Avast free
then microsoft supply a system for free..
