I have been using NOD32 for 3 years now and am fine with it and love the performance.

Now the time has come to renew my license. I have heard some good things about Kaspersky. So what do you think I should go for and why?

kaspersky. i used nod for years and unless they fix the current issues and problems with ver 3 and 4 i will not go back. also kaspersky found infections on a "clean" system as stated by nod that were actually virus' when i sent them to eset

I hear conflicting information on these 2 programs all the time. There is no consensus for which one is better. I currently have Kaspersky but last I heard NOD32 was better and lighter on resources.

As I told in other threads, Kaspersky is a product supervised by Russian FSB (post - KGB), and Kaspersky itself is working for FSB, with all implications of that.

zfactor is just a reseller of the product so he will tell you everything the seller says to sell you his product.

Even if you tend to ignore the above, technically there is no reason to change good NOD32 to Kaspersky.

That's kind of a low blow, ivar.
I don't think there is a need (very mildly put) to try to discredit zfactor's recommendations about Kaspersky software.
They are supported by numerous tests done by highly regarded security software testing companies.
By now the whole world+dog knows of your stance on Kaspersky and while you certainly are entitled to your opinion, imao there is no need to discredit those who don't share your opinion.
Everytime you use such an approach, you are actually discrediting yourself.
    Cheers.

    Concerning the tests statistics:
    http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=330554

In short, Kaspersky's lab is involved in the cybercriminal activity of Russian FSB, it possesses know how on writing and distributing malware, which results in better "detection" statistics - next day after a fragment of the net is already infected by the malware launched a day before.

i will not push that product currently because i do not PERSONALLY feel i would use it on MY OWN systems to which you WILL FIND KASPERSKY at home and in my office... i own 2 business' and formally was three i just sold one and i used kasperksy 2009 on anything i wanted protected. period.

i used nod32 for YEARS i LOVED 2.x verisons but i will not use it anymore as i have had nothing but issues with it from me and my customers. do i hope they get their act together yes would i go back. yes IF THEY were able to make this as solid as 2.x used to be....

personally my fav's right now are:

    kaspersky
    nis2009
avira antivir (not the free one it is NOT THE same as paid)
    dr web

is kaspersky the end all and be all ...no there are areas where i think it can be improved as well but imo it is one of if not the best overall suite out right now. i also have to give credit where its due to nortons this year.. for sure a great product this time around

there are a few up and coming ones as well like rising, twister and others but they just dont show a strong enough backing yet for me to recc them for everyday people.

you need to step back here. and i dont care if you dont like me because i sell kaspersky. you need to let people decide and stop shoving your crap down people's throats.

do i sound annoyed yet? i have no issues with you at all... you just need to stop posting in every thread that uses the word kaspersky about the same thing.. no offense im sure there are many others here that feel the same way by now..

i trust the product on my own personal systems and i could run or resell anything i want to is my point.

zfactor: I never experienced anything bad with nod32, so your terrifying people with nod32's bsdos and resourses appears to me to be just an unfair marketting to mislead people.

Your persistent promotion of KAV, in spite of its origin in russian FSB sponsored and supervised lab, is itself a fact to draw conclusions from.

So, my comment about your unfair marketting was correct if you had to change it.

Sorry, I will not give up warning people about this FSB-supervised product called KAV. Your right is to sell it again and again, and my right and even duty, based on the information I have, is to warn people again and again. :D

Perhaps if you were more detailed about this information, people would be inclined to believe this admittedly far-fetched claim....Ivar, you must admit this is a slightly outrageous claim..one which by now you should provide more detail as to HOW YOU CAME BY THIS INFORMATON ....your claims are rampant in every Kaspersky-related thread...give details and some sound evidence or people will continue to question this claim...(and how can you blame them!) ? Now please be a stand-up guy or my Alien will have to probe your monkey..... :)

He is basically a troll that loves to blab about the FSB without providing any proof whatsoever about his ludicrous claims. Guess it's one way to beg for attention.

Seriously though, I have no experience with NOD32 but I love my Kaspersky...it's given me no issues whatsoever. I just kinda wished I checked out NOD32 cuz I heard it's better but apparently there's a lot of issues so I'll stick with my Kaspersky.

MrPresident I like KIS 09 too since it's very low on system RAM and uses very little resources like Norton. After trying out the free trial I am really liking KIS 09 and this is after I had tried Norton Internet Security 09. IMO, both are very good but I still like KIS 09 better.

I've been using Kaspersky and it works beautifully. I don't even remember it's on most of the time.

    To Ivar,

I'm really not trying to be a smart@ss or funny or a heckler, but I've now seen you post the same thing about Kaspersky in three or four different threads and, to my knowledge, you haven't cited a single credible source. If I have something on my machine that the Russians can use to steal my information or gather information about the U.S. that they can use to harm us, then please let me know where I can find the information. I would gladly remove all traces of Kaspersky from my computer. Hell, I'll even write my State Senators and such to see if they can push it to Federal awareness. Otherwise, I think that you're just being repetitive and a conspiracy theorist.

EDIT: I tried to do a search of my own and this is what I came up with:

    http://www.theregister.co.uk/2008/02/15/kaspersky_profile_mixup/

    and this . . .

Not everything you want to know is in google, especially if you are restricted to the English language sector of google. It's that simple. Moreover, if Russia is speaking about its "counter-terrorism" measures then in practice it means just opposite.

I've tried a search on Ivars theory but have not got anywhere. If there was any shred of evidence to support this it would be all over the Internet that there was an anti-virus software that is sold globally which the FSB use to basically spy. Imagine the uproar there would be, all over the world. Have we ever heard anything in the News, on the Internet - NO!!!!!

I've also asked Ivar before to provide evidence as i'm interested in seeing it, but he hasn't, he seems unable to backup his theory, so as far as i'm concerned it's a conspiracy theory dreamt up by one person, who only one person believes.

The details would be too long, and they involve analysis of different facts, only part of which is possible to check on-line, and even less of them by googling in English. I just hope that the authorities will do their job and this product will be banned from the market, but there are obstacles to do it easy.

Can use, when the market share of KAV exceeds certain level. I have no technical
evidence if it IS regularly used "to spy", and I haven't claimed that. I have evidence that it can be used to distribute malware, infect and attack networks. Moreover, my main point is the affiliation of Kaspersky and his lab with Russian FSB. As I told, the harming potential of this software can be used if the market share is big enough, and Russia decides that the time came to use it against the West.
Cyberwar is one of the subjects Kaspersky teaches his fellow FSB officers at the "FSB Academy". I don't think this information is googlable.

    well, on a sidenote:

i've had NOD32 for a long while, and i've never run into issues with it, and it appears my notebook has stayed clean over the years as i have no had any virus styled problems thus far. NOD32 has also never gotten in the way of any game i've played on my notebook.

Well, I use Nod32 for the past few years.
Never had compatibility or crash issues with either version 2 or latest version 3 (on any OS), plus my computers never had issues with viruses and worms ever since I installed Nod (which would probably make me say that it's a quality program ... and I surf on a lot on the net which includes 'fishy' sites).
I also don't have the need for extra firewalls as Nod's Smart Security implements similar protections (which are quite adequate) with the anti-virus while remaining light on system resources.
If any additional issues might arise though, I use a free program called Spybot (but I only use it once in 2 or 3 months ... ending up with a clean result).

I have not used Kapersky anti-virus so I cannot really comment on it.
I can say that NOD was commended in the Top 10 reviews (this is purely as an example) for it's light use of system resources and being least intrusive (not to mention least bloated) software.

I'm pretty sure Kapersky is also a rather good program on it's own, so it comes down to the OP on what they want to use.

My side with nod32 is that I never had issues. Not only that catchs viruses. Also its not resource hog. The other anti virus used was norton god it was terrible very resource hog. I would say stick with nod32 if its done its job and had never given you problems.

I've made up my mind and I'm just not giving any more credence to what Ivar is saying (not that I was giving it much before). He claims that we won't find the information on Google, yet he refuses to post any information as to where he is getting or has gotten his "facts."

You had our attention. We wanted to at least hear you out. You failed to deliver anything, however. As far as I'm concerned, your theories are bogus, and I'll maintain that viewpoint until you force me to change it - BY PROVIDING SOMETHING TANGIBLE!

If the affiliation of Kaspersky with FSB, and crimes FSB has been involved in is not suffient for you ... Maybe you want me to provide a link with the list of Russian FSB officers with Kaspersky's name in the middle? :D As I told,
just think what you are asking for. Concerning the technology of how Kaspersky's lab involvement in politically motivated cyberattacks
was catched at least on one occasion, and the links, the analysis of which
allows to establish it, mostly don't exist anymore.

Besides, as I told, the relavant material which I was using was not found in English. Moreover, to every link one can find, you will find 10 links with putin's counterpropaganda in all major languages. It's not math where all the same theorems and proofs are found in all textbooks. :)

Of course, I undestand the mistrust to my statements. However, the orchestrated buffooning of kaspersky's fanboys (and resellers) is also a fact which should be added to your full picture.

    Just to chip in.
    a) I've been using Kaspersky for about 10 months now - 100% happy.
    b) Barclays in the UK uses and recommends Kaspersky - I think they know what they use to keep their money safe.
    c) The FSB isn't per se criminal - same as the CIA isn't criminal.
Or should I claim Linux is dangerous as the NSA uses a version of it?

If the FSB uses Kaspersky then maybe because it is that good, and also because its the only Russian antivirus and they won't use an American product for obvious reasons.

    And as stated by other's:
    Proof would be nice.

holly EUroidiocy pure... Yes, it is.

And a comparison with CIA or other normal special service of normal democratic countries is per se ... well, a misconception.

Sorry for offtopic, but that had to commented.

How do you know? Did I say that? No. But you're right - they do.
Because this is their product, and you will never know which special modification of it is installed on internal FSB computers, so that their
computers are protected fom their own malware targeting the West.

I told that Kaspersky AV is developed under a supervision of FSB by a loyal FSB officer, and if FSB "uses" KAV then for the purposes of politically motivated cyberattacks.

Ever heard about the viruses which attack computers with non-Russian keyboards only? Ones I got one detected by
F-secure. Checked it, run kaspersky on the infected file in virtual windows. Did it find it? No.

did use AVG, switched to NOD32 about a year and a half ago, no problems so far, no virus problems either.

I thought that already, looking on your posts. FSB fishes out their ... "friends" exactly from this kind of audience.

Thanks for useful information. Will reduce my money on their card to the minimum and will ask them to make the allowed credit null.

    And why?
Because you cannot back up your argument or because you prefer hijacking a thread?

I shall stand by my previous post.

Kaspersky has run well for me and continues to do so.

I also believe that it is a reliable and trustworthy antivirus.

I've had NOD32 on my laptop for a while and have never had any trouble with it.
