Disable the startup files check up, it doesn't really make sense to slow down your boot process every time to check up the same files again and again, NOD32 wouldn't allow a virus to be there in the first place, so it's really worthless.I have disabled it, and my bootup time was 15 seconds faster!

    Here's how to do it.....

open the main NOD32 window, then go to TOOLS

    then.........look at the image attached......

the most important one to disable is the one highlighted in RED, I disabled some others as I don't have any dial up connection, and I don't need to scan every update, but that's up to you......the one highlighted in red is what bogs down boot up time.....

What marketing? I'm posting a good guide to NOD32 users to speed up their performance! Although NOD32 is known as the lightest antivirus and the most secure! But still, that startup scan can make things much faster !

What does marketing have to do with my guide?

Or get Norton Antivirus / Internet Security 2009 which doesn't scan the same files again and again (uses Norton trusted scan).

yeah right! and make yourself vulnerable to viruses! no thank u...... i'll stick to my trust worthy NOD32 that has protected meh for 5 years consecutively and made my performance experience the same as someone who is running with no antivirus!

and pleasse don't tell me that NOD32 uses more RAM than NIS, it's not about the RAM, it's about how the AV Kernel works and scans files on demand, which is the real affecting factor for performance

Worthless in your eyes, perhaps, but definitely not worthless. The startup scan will catch viruses that might "slip through the cracks" - like when you temporarily disable NOD32 during an application/driver installation, and forget to turn it back on, then visit a website that has been infected.

Since I don't consider my system boot (it's a laptop - I never reboot unless directed to by WU or an application I just installed) a race against time, I'll keep my startup scan in place.

Well to each his own, but IMHO I don't need it, I never have disabled my AV anyway for any reason. No program ever required me to do so......

Try HP Deskjet Installation Disc. You may need to disable the protection temporarily. I am not sure for NOD32 but Avira does block the installation. I got no choice but to disable.
Norton is great indeed, my dear. Mcafee is stupid indeed, my dear. LOL.
