before i begin i must state that this is on moms desktop computer. now to the "issue" at hand. just today i came across an error stating that the Symantec Service Framework encountered an error and needed to close. i then tried to open the antivirus only to be greeted with a One Click support window. this next part is very strange. the window said we were BETA testers even though we are using a full release version.

this window also has a button to upload logs to symantec. is it even worth it with 4 months left on the subscription?

Have you try to remove the entire norton stuffs and reinstall it again?
    I think that may help.

Additional tools(freeware from Norton): Norton Removal Tool
This tool can remove norton completely from your computer if you're not able to remove Norton stuffs using normal uninstaller.
I used Norton removal tool before, after removing the whole norton using it and install the norton again. Everything works fine.

There really shouldn't be any issue running NAV 2009.
Just make sure to run the Norton Removal Tool twice, and reboot in between, before reinstalling NAV2009.
Download the applicable NRT version here.

I agree with Baserk about running it twice.
Seems there is files and registry entries it misses on just one run

I just had that issue with NIS2009. It seems every time there is a major update, NIS fails to start at boot (you can tell, since it adds a new NIS icon to your desktop) and you have to reboot to get it to start at boot again.

Your issue seems slightly different from mine, but try rebooting the computer and you should be fine.

    Hello,

This is Mike from the Norton Authorized Support Team.

The issue that “Sahugani” describes in this thread was experienced by a small number of Norton users who received a LiveUpdate over the past two weeks for Norton AntiVirus 2009, Norton Internet Security 2009 and Norton 360 version 3. I am happy to report Symantec has developed a fix for this issue. If anyone experiences this issue after a LiveUpdate has been run, please follow the instructions at the link below.

Resolve System Framework error in Norton 2009 products

Please NOTE, if the first set of instructions do not resolve the issue, please click on the “What if this didn’t work” link at the bottom of the page for a second set of instructions.

    Thank you,
    Mike

  Did you have an affair with Norton and then decided to stay away or just following the crowd of Norton bashers??

And Thank You, Mike :) I didn't have any issues with NIS '09, still I have noted the link, just in case :)

No, but I remember the day when Norton pwned my system and made me think i had no viruses when NOD32's online scan caught loads of viruses! that's when I made the switch and never went back!

In addition to that, my system's speed has increased by 25%

Thank you! only users of NOD32 can tell you how bad NIS or Norton is....... if you hadn't used NOD32, you would be fine with Norton as you wouldn't know what you are missing in terms of security and in terms of speed.

    rep point added to you!

I've used Kaspersky Internet Security 2008, Eset Smart Security v3 and v4 (as well as NOD32 v3), McAfee 2008, Avast!, ZoneAlarm, and Norton Internet Security 2009.

Out of these, I'd say my favorites are ESS and NIS09, but NIS09 edges out ESS in my book for several reasons:
1.- Not sure about other stores, but Fry's Electronics very frequently sells triple licenses of NIS09 for $0.00 after rebates. Certainly better than ESS in that regard, which only has rebates when it's the out-of-date version.
2.- NIS09 has more frequent updates, scans faster, and in my experience, cleaned up threats more thoroughly than ESS.
3.- NIS09 uses less RAM than ESS (although not by too much), does not increase my boot time at all, does not slow down my computer (I'm a biggie on this point, which is the reason I rejected KIS08 - although I have heard KIS09 is better in that regards), and has a very transparent updating routine (no measurable CPU usage during updates).

Word... If this keeps going, someone should start a new thread for "ESET vs. Symantec," which I think would be useless as everyone has their own AV software preferences. I agree with MidnightSun's credible arguments as he's used both ESET and NIS and can speak based on experience. I have never used ESET (but not closed-minded and will try it in the future), but have friends that use it and can see that it works great. I'm currently on NIS 2009 and all I can say is that NIS 2009, and 2010 (based on comments for beta), are big improvements over previous versions. ESET is also definitely a worthy antivirus and proves to provide a competitive edge over other competitors, and like I said, I'd give it a try in the future. Basically there's no point arguing for each side as experiences with software can be subjective. Maybe I'd start arguing against Symantec when I encounter a negative experience with their software, but so far I have had none...
