    I am going to do some work on my mother in laws computer and could use some recommendation for good firewall, andtivirus, and anti spyware software. I am looking for software that is effective but is easy to use for someone who is not tech savvy.
    On my laptop and my wife's laptop I run Comodo firewall, Avira antivirus, and A2 antispyware.
    The only downside to Avira is that though it updates automatically, it does not automatically run a scan periodically.
    A2 has the same problem, it has to be updated and run on manually.

    This is ok for me but I would like something more automated for her so she does not have to worry about it.

    Thanks in advance

    You can schedule automated scans with Avira...

    AVG free is really easy to use, and version 8 has antivirus and antispyware together. It has automated updating and you can schedule scans too. Only thing missing is a firewall, but Comodo will do fine.

    AntiVirus = NOD32 (Best performance + Protection)

    Firewall = Windows Firewall (unless you are constantly doing online transactions, for teh general user, I wouldn't even bother, configuring it for her would be more hassle than it's worth. Especially if she starts using a new program which requires internet access and it asks her for persmissions and ****.)

    Anti Spyware = SuperAntiSpyware Free

    Even though I use the Comodo Firewall I wouldn't suggest it for your MIL as it has a bit of a learning curve. Windows will do.

    I second that. But I might add Windows Defender which has real time protection and is easy to use :)

    If you want something automated and easy, and you want to spend some money, I suggest Kaspersky Internet Security. It is an all-in-one security solution and I don't think it has a learning curve like CPF or else. It is easy and automated.

    If she really isn't tech savvy, you can expect some phone calls if you install Comodo I'd imagine.
    It's either phonecalls or 'just-clicking-OK'.
    If your MIL doesn't do 'weird stuff' on the net, why not simply go with Windows Firewall?

    I can recommend ThreatFire, it's an excellent anti malware program with real-time protection with 8MB resource usage (32-bit only though).
    It works fine together with Avira AV and you can set an automated scan if you want to.
