I got this through Windows update on 4/2 and it installed fine. I tried to get this update for my other system (also running Win 7 SP1 64 bit) last night (4/4/2014) and windows update does offer it . After reading this Microsoft Security Essentials 4.5.216.0 Potentially Unprotected on - Microsoft Community I guess MS pulled it. Does anyone else have this issue?
PS the MS download center only has 4.4.0304.0 which is the version I have on the system in question. Thanks in advance
from what I read the changelog indicates EOL support for XP only so the icon in systray turns orange if you are running XP

I have Windows 7 Ultimate x64 and MSE reads as being 4.5.216.0 version - this update happened several days ago.
I didn't notice it on other home computers, but then again I don't use them... so its possible I missed it there.
My MSE reads as protected, so no issues on that front.
Try turning it on and re-scanning the system if you have that issue.

Don't tell this to anyone. I want to see 'em all move away from XP to 7 or 8! The less people still use XP, the less hackers will still want to target this ancient but functional OS... Anyways, I'm on build x.x.x.0304 of MSE on XP. It is now the 9th of April. My MSE system tray icon is................................ green with a check mark. I manually dled the MSE definition this morning. It was created @ 4AM this morning past the XP exp. date... I shall do the same tomorrow and the day after that and the day after that and the day after that and I wager my MSE icon will still be checked and green ... running in Windows XP... (MS will stop providing MSE definitions for the x86 version the day Win7 expires in 2020. But, what am I saying, silly me trying to get users to stay away from XP. You blink for a second and 6 years will have gone by just like that. Race you to upgrade to the next Windows OS!)

    Why using MSE in 2014?
