My internet service (AT&T) is offering all their high speed internet customers McAfee Security Suite free for download. I checked it's A.V. Comparative scores and its decent. I currently have a freeware setup that I downloaded from these message boards. Now I need help deciding which one is better for protection, resources and functionality.

    My Freeware Setup:

    Avast! Antivirus Free Edition
    SuperAntiSpyWare Free
Windows Vista Firewall (but was looking into Comodo Pro)
    Windows Defender

    VS.

    McAfee Security Suite

By the way I have an H.P. DV5t with Windows 64bit.

Any comments or suggestions would help greatly!

my suggestion would be to go thru wid installing comodo pro - although it might take some getting used to, if ur using it for the first time.

Mcafee is definitely a resource hog. so ur better of wid the combination u already have. avast scores better in the av-comparatives than mcafee also.

As for the AS - ditch Windows Defender. Your completely secure with just SuperAntispyware Free. also, avast has real-time anti-spyware too.

    cheers.

Now if I download Comodo Pro, do I turn Windows Firewall off? and will hurt anything to keep windows defender on? Thanks

McAfee is not a big resource hog!!! People claim it to be a resource hog when it really isn't. When I boot up my laptop and when McAfee is updating it takes 5 % of my cpu for like 20 seconds and that 5% does not affect when when i'm playing games or anything. The only time when it uses the Cpu a lot is when you do a virus scan and face it any virus scan will take up a lot of resources With Macfee I have never gotten a virus. MCafee is amazing. Again thats what I think.

The latest version of McAffe (and Norton) are fairly decent. However, if you're satisfied with your freeware setup, then I suggest staying with it. You have a good setup right now (with the addition of Comodo Firewall) and I wouldn't change it.
