    McAfee HackerWatch Update Helper?

    I got 18 months of "free" McAfee w/ my Dell XPS15 in April. Even if McAfee wouldn't be my first choice, it was free... Anyway, everything was fine until about a month ago when I noticed my laptop was almost always running at full turbo. A quick check of Task Manager reveals hwupdchk.exe (McAfee HackerWatch Update Helper) consuming 13% of CPU, and if there's nothing else running, the CPU will drop out of full turbo when I kill the process.

    My question is how do I stop it from running other than opening Task Manager every time I reboot and killing the process. I can't find HackerWatch in the McAfee Security Center.

    even though its free, get rid of it. try avast or microsoft security esentials which are both free.

    Seconded.
    Remove that piece of bloat and replace it with something that's light and effective such as Avast or MSE.

    That's sucks. It seems that you need to close the process manually.
    As most member here suggest you uninstall McAfee, maybe you can choose to install other free AV program. Such as Microsoft Security Essential, AVG, or Avast.
