    Hello All.

I am planning to get a new laptop, and was wondering which internet suite to purchase along with it.

Currently Mcafee and Norton Internet Suites are offered on the configuration page (no surprise there) and was wondering if there are better (and cheaper?) options out there.

I have tested the Norton Internet suite 2009, and i must say it has definitely improved over 2008 series in terms of speed and usability. I do not know if it has become more effective and better security Wise.

    So what are your opinions.............

    thanks

Depends on how comfortable you are with security.

Some people, myself included, prefer to pick out the best individual security programs and pretty much create our own "security suite." While others like the convenience of being able to control and manage all aspects of security from within one interface.

As far as suites go, Norton 09 is tops right now, esp. when it comes to the impact it has on system performance.

Skip McAfee, I've had nothing but problems with it....

You will be just fine with the free alternatives. I'd strongly advise you to avoid Norton and McAfee.

    As suites are concerned, I'd recommend either Norton's NIS2009 or Kaspersky's KIS2009.
(While Symantec/Norton has taken it's time to build up a bad reputation, they have made an very good suite with NIS2009).
But as already stated, you can make an excellent 'suite' by combining free programs yourself, check the link in my signature for options.
    Cheers.

You are better having no anti-virus protection whatsoever and visiting http://www.please-kill-my-pc-with-viruses.com than installing Mcafee. You're better off throwing your laptop off a cliff and then calling in the Air Force to napalm the entire continent it's on than installing Mcafee.

I personally think NIS9 is the best out there and I have tested most suites out there. I used to hate Norton man, but NIS9 is wonderful.

Oh, and anyone who blasts NIS9 obviously hasn't tried it. I would have blasted it just because it's Norton myself, but I tried it and well, it's not going anywhere.

Oh #2, I prefer suites just because I find them to use less resources than multiple programs, at least that's what my trials by fire have shown.

    G'luk.

o......k i guess you had a terrible experience with Mcafee lol.

Yeap as i mentioned in my original post, i did test NIS9 and as a user of NIS 07 and 08 i can vouch that 09 is a 100% improvement in regards to speed and resource usage wise. Only question that remains is that has it come at a cost of effectiveness, has it degraded or maintained its standards.

imo mcafee is GARBAGE . but maybe thats just me.. i remove it almost every week from infected systems because it allowed infections while it was running. just this week so far i had 2 infected systems come in for virus' removal that were running mcafee...garbage

I've upgraded to KIS 2009 from KIS 7 - my computer sped up a bit.

KIS 2009 is very good - but everyone to his own.
