I can't seem to be able to update MBAM. When i first installed it, it automatically tried to update but failed to displaying the error message 'Error code: 732 (0,0)'.

I downloaded the installation file again and tried installing it without updating automatically afterwards. In the main window, I tried updating manually but the same error message came up.

I searched google but it says people have only received this message when trying to install the real-time protection module which is only available in the paid version. I'm also not running on a 64-bit system.

Has anyone suffered from this problem and been able to resolve it?

Sir, it sounds to me you have a virus. I believe the only option is to update your virus scanner and then do a FULL disk scan. Afterwards you might have to seriously sit down and consider the possibility of formatting your computer! Remember to backup data my friend!

Do you have any other security software that might prevent MBAM from updating? A HIPS or FW+HIPS combination?
If not, try uninstalling the current MBAM.
Then, download MBAM, rename the MBAM setup.exe to ABC.exe.
Install MBAM (by using ABC.exe) but do not update it immediately or use the scan.
Go to the MBAM folder in Program Files and rename MBAM.exe to ABCD.exe.
Now run MBAM (by starting ABCD.exe) and try to update the program.
I'm not sure if this will work but it's worth a try.

Ok I got it to work. My firewall was on a really high setting. But the database hasn't updated to a newer version. Is the current version suppose to be '2421'? It's at least a week old. How often do they update their definitions?

I formatted my computer about a week ago. I can't have picked up a virus already. That would suck big time.

Btw, which do you guys prefer and why.. MBAM or SuperAntiSpyware? I would rather keep one instead of both. Which one has the highest detection rate?

The lastest is 2515 . I've found they update quite frequently but I have the free version so I don't really know how often they update.

Something is not quite right, if I were you, I'd uninstall with Revo Uninstaller in advanced mode and reinstall. I'd also give it full privilages once you do re-install with your FW. You may also want to disconnect from the internet and shut off any other security programs before installing. Once it's installed, try to update.

I have SASPro (realtime) which only cost $20 for a lifetime license, but I've seen it for only $10 as an offer once you update the free version.

Also, when cleaning friends computers, it seems although MBAM does a much better job of cleaning the nasties, although SAS has picked up a couple after, so I'd keep both.

You may also want to install SpywareBlaster which doesn't use any resources.

Also free (or paid) but, like the other free versions needs to be updated manually.

Hmm. I switched from my usual limited account to admin and it updates fine now. Will still run AV/MBAM scan just in case...

MBAM will not install updates that are downloaded from a limited or guest account. As you already found out, you have to update from an account with administrative privileges.
