When I install Virusscan 8.5i on my Vista Lenovo T61p Laptop it causes the laptop to hang on bootup for approximately 30 seconds at the wallpaper screen as though it's booted up completely, but during this time you can't do anything. Then finally, the Macafee splashscreen shows up and virusscan is loaded. From there you can begin working. If I get rid of on access scan on bootup then the problem doesn't happen. However, virusscan is basically useless without on access scan no?

Please let me know what the solution of this is....

    Thanks,

    Chris

I think you may be confusing on-access scan on boot-up with active protection. You don't really need to scan at boot-up every time. I'd only suggest it if you think you have something. Even then, it'd probably be better to run in safe mode first. A boot-up scan would detect virus stuff that starts up when your computer starts. It's fine for your anti-virus to NOT scan at boot-up. Just keep the regular active protection online.

How do i turn off boot up with active protection and still maintain active protection without bootup?

I thought you said there was a scan running at boot up?

"If I get rid of on access scan on bootup then the problem doesn't happen. However, virusscan is basically useless without on access scan no?"

Disable only the part where it scans your computer on boot-up. Or is the active protection called "on-access scan?" It's been awhile since I used McAfee (I switched to what I consider better free alternatives, but that's for another time). Upgrading to the newest version of Virus-scan may help, they're at 12 I believe.

Yeah, I wasn't sure if you spent your money on McAfee or not. I don't really suggest McAfee at all. There are better pay options (if you want to pay), and better free options. Avira is a great choice for a free anti-virus program. Similar to how NOD32 is an excellent pay anti-virus.

I like Macafee....I have it on my old e-machine desktop. Does not slow my system down at all. I have Kaspersky on my laptop, when my Macafee runs out on my desktop, I will put Kaspersky on my desktop. But no complaints with Macafee at all. Good product.
