Ever since the recent updates to MSE and Windows, it's been telling me that I don't have proper protection because I haven't scanned my pc in a long time. I tried doing a quick scan the first time I encountered that error, and it went away only to come back. This time I did a full scan... figured that would do the trick. No dice. It came back again. The scans are registering because it shows in the recent scan info at the bottom of MSE... anyone got any idea how to fix this?

The easiest way is usually to just uninstall MSE, reboot and reinstall the most recent version.
Not a refined solution at all but it works pretty much 100% of the time.

What version do you have? I know the last update wasn't under Windows update and you had to download from their site. I second the suggestion to uninstall and reinstall.

Not sure. I didn't download it from their site. But I did see an update for it twice actually through Windows update. First time was a few weeks ago I believe and the other day was a slightly smaller update.

Anyway. I figured just to be safe I would download it from their website where they would have the latest version (as opposed to installing the version I already downloaded from a few months back)....so far seems to be ok. Thanks. :)

That error could have been fixed by checking Windows updates under "recommend" option - a sneaky MSE "client" update

    cheers ...

Ditch MSE and get a real antivirus by people who have experience about viruses.

Avira is my recommended free AV or NOD32 / Kaspersky for a paid one. Nothing else IMO
