I have started getting "Connection failed" error messages when MSE tries to update it's definitions.

When I click the update button manually, MSE downloads and installs the definition updates fine. It appears that the update always fails at the first time check. The dowload progress bar disappears too quick, then the installing progress bar, and then the update fails with the above mentioned error.

I had uninstalled/ reinstalled MSE with no success. Does anyone know what might be the issue?

use the task scheduler and "import" this script.

i have setup this script to automatically run the MSE update every hr, check if there's network available before updating, dont update while on battery.

I had used the task scheduler to run the updates before, and got the same error message. The network connection is fine.

Does it only happen on windows startup? I'm having an issue where MSE fails windows validation check every 2-3 days at startup, but once you click the validate button everything is fine. Maybe it's related... also what firewall do you use?

I didn't get any validation error. I use the built-in Windows firewall. Actually the update fails only at the first attempt, but runs fine after that.
