Any word on a release date? I'm looking forward to try out MSE 2.0 when it gets released. Last i've read it's in beta and one of the features i'm looking forward to is the ability of MSE 2.0 to block website attacks unfortunately it's only for IE.
-
I'm really interested in this as well.
-
I've got the Beta running for a long time now...
On MS Connect it says "Announcement not available" - so no clue is my answer. -
how do you get the beta?
-

On another note:
MSE 2.0 offers new features (unless I am mistaken) - it checks every download for example, offers network protection, and can monitor all activity on your computer
It's stable and does the job as far as I am aware - I also do not notice a performance impact. -
I switched to Avast 5 because it helps against website attacks but more importantly I noticed my laptop slowed down a little with MSE 1.0 whereas with Avast 5 it runs much much quicker. I'm still looking forward to MSE 2.0 when it comes out. -
So far I have been very pleased with MSE 1.0 on the system in my sig. I look forward to MSE 2.0 once it is finalized.
-
I tried MSE before and it was ok, but it missed some hidden files caught by avast 5. I'm thinking about getting a new av like KIS or NIS 2011.
-
Where MSE fails, Avast or Avira might win out, but it's a double-edged sword, so sticking with free solutions would probably be better.
I also can't wait for MSE 2 to come out.
Looking forward to see if MS got rid of high CPU utilization, improved upon detection rates, speed and lightnesses (not that it's not light as it is, but it COULD be better).
I'm using MSE 1 right now. -
I am using AVG free in all my computers for years but maybe it's time to break the habbit and give this one a try.
-
Avast seems to currently beat MSE slightly in detection rates (by 2%), though either one will suffice to be frank.
I use MSE because I had better experience with it (tried Avast 5 and it allowed a browser hijacker through despite detecting it and whatnot).
Anyhow, between Avira, Avast and MSE, it's your call. -
MSE 2.0 Beta blocked my system (AMD Athlon64 3000+, 2GB RAM, XPPro) with 100% CPU load when scanning a file while it is downloaded. I finally ditched it when it started to complain about the genuinity of my operating system.
Mr. Ballmer: I paid for the commercial software I am using. got it?

MSE is so awesome, I can't wait for 2.0. It's fast, it's free and it's super lightweight on system resources. Plus it's made my Microsoft which knows their own OS inside and out which I believe provides superior protection!
-
There are certainly some merits to that.
-
@thundernet: I've been slowly migrating away from AVG to MSE myself with most of the computers I work on. AVG is a solid solution, but MSE does just about the same thing with less strain on the system. I have yet to hear of any of my clients getting a virus, so I think it's working. I used to get complaints occasionally with AVG, so I'll take the fewer complaints even if it does mean I have to support Microsoft
-
Completely transferred from 3 years of KIS to MSE 2.0 Beta!
-
Any news on a release date?
-
Should have come as a regular larger update.
(At least there was one on my grandfather's computer recently if I am not mistaken) -
Mine is version 2.0.375.0 and I never signed up for any beta. Is this the final version of MSE 2.0? It must have come with windows updates.
Is there anything new? Took a quick look and everything seems to be the same except that the background changed to black from blue. -

Mine is not the 2.0 version, though the anti-malware element of MSE on my machine is a 2.xx version. How does one get the new (2.0) version?
-
My Anti-Malware is version 3.
-
Little question - is the interface green/blue or grey?
I'm on the 2.0.375.0 and mine is grey - coming from the Beta though. -
It fades from light gray on the left to darker gray on the top right and has some architectural white lines on the right.
Then there is some Green mixed in on the top to give green light that I am protected. I assume this changes to orange/red if there is a problem. -
But this means that the interface was also changed for all people now on 2.0 - good to know -
Doesn't look to have been released as of yet.

been running the beta since it was made available and its been fine no problems and doesn't slow the PC down from what Ive seen
-
I think that MS released an update for MSE but still hasn't put the program itself to v2.0 (obviously because that one is still in beta).
Otherwise we probably would have seen the UI colour changes among other things. -

If you click the small arrow beside "Help" in MSE (I am working with version 1.0), the second item in the drop down menu says "upgrade". I tried to exercise that option. It did it's little search thing and reported abck that I am using the most recent version. In other words, the most recent stable/ non-beta version as per my machine is 1.0.
Try it out on your machines (especially the folks who have 1.0) and see what happens. Most likely you will get the same message as I did. This leads me to think that the MSE 1.0 version is still the latest stable version. -
That's because it likely IS.
The 2.0 is still in Beta. -

I love it when I tell my family members that one of the best anti-virus and anti-spyware programs they can get is free from Microsoft for XP, Vista, and W7.
They have this notion that if you want an AV program to be good you must pay for it. That's not true at all anymore. -
I'm so happy that solutions such as MSE exist. It bodes well for the free AV market.
-
-
your cousin is using AVG and Norton ... at the same time?
Seriously, AVG is a resource hog and has lower detection rates compared to Norton or top free av's.
Norton is fine to use (so long as it's 2009 or above version), though it's detection rates and ability to remove issues are essentially on par with MSE, Avira and Avast.
Have your cousin go to AV comparatives and take a look at the tests conducted there. -
Does MSE catch network attack? I currently use Kaspersky IS 2011 and my dormitory network must have some kind of infection - I get 2-3 notifications per day about network attack being blocked by Kaspersky. I did not get any notification while I experimented with MSE for few days.
Does this mean that MSE would not catch network block or it simply does not do notifications?
Kaspersky slows down my system so I want to stay away from it on my next clean install... -
MSSE is not a firewall. Kaspersky is. Windows Firewall will block the things Kaspersky alerts on if it's set up properly, but it won't bug you. Just because you don't see alerts does not mean shenanigans aren't going on.

Just because an employee boast about every little thing he does, doesn't mean he is good. -
MSE 2.0 will have deeper ties into the Windows Firewall, as well as deep integration with IE.
It will, under Vista and 7, have the ability to "sniff" network traffic and better prevent attacks. -
-
I don't think it will support Chrome as means to tie into it.
Just IE.
However, IE9 apparently has all the bells and whistles and will be on the level of other browsers like Chrome and Firefox (if not better) when speed and security are in question.
At least we know it will be most secured, and highly optimized if the Beta is any indication.
Once IE9 comes out in a full version I'll start using it to see just how 'good' it actually is.
Right now I use Chromium.
I also use MSE 1.0.24xxxx version (fully updated of course, but not the beta of version 2) and cannot say I had any problems.
I would surmise that Windows Firewall catches most if not all threats in the background but doesn't bother the user with the notifications.
Besides, who would want constant (every 5 mins or so) notifications that your firewall prevented a breach? -
MSE 2.0, afaik, will only support IE as far as the "deep integration" goes.
Pretty much ditto on Deks' post. -
What's the current ETA for MSE 2.0?
