if you're looking for free ones however.. try Microsoft security essentials.. you'll need a genuine copy of windows to install it.. but as my experience.. it's way more lightweight than AVG and Avast.. i hardly feel it's there.. did remove some spyware too when AVG was only able to quarantine them (well you need to buy Pro for AVG to really get things removed)

If paid, I use Kaspersky Interent Security 2011, IMO the best paid AV, ESET NOD32 comes next, but if for free, Microsoft Security Essential is the best.

Though its quite on the high end on the price scale, i've used Norton 360 for about 4 years now, on three laptops in succession, and it's never failed me. Doesn't have high cpu/mem usage, very discrete, though it has average defense, using it along with malware bytes (free edition) to do routine scans, it hasn't let me down. It also comes with online back up storage, and pc utilities.

1 on Norton, 1 on AVG free edition.

Norton works great for me but AVG is getting the boot just as soon as i can decide on a replacement.

    "Best" is very subjective.

Are you looking for the best security?
Are you looking for the best performance?
Are you willing to spend the time setting up a product?
Do you need the product to be effectively silent?
