    Is there a 64 bit equivalent to sandboxie ?
    Or does the 64 bit kernel prohibit something like sandboxie ?

    Nope.

    64 bit virtualization softwares are limited.

    1. Returnil 2010 (Free and Paid Available)
    2. Shadow Defender (My personal favourite. But has only paid version.)
    3. Kaspersky IS too. But it has a lotta glitches left to be ironed out.

    Also, COMODO Internet Security v4 will have a sandboxing feature for 64bit as well, when released. And GeSWall too, i think, is planned to have a 64bit version in v3.
