I am looking to get a new Internet Security Suite and would like to know which direction to go. Is it best to get individual firewall and antivirus programs or get an all-inclusive suite? What would be the best ones to go with?
I do not want to go with Norton or McAfee becuase they are to resource hungry.
Currently using ZoneAlarm Security Suite v.7, but my subscription is about to run out and I would like to know if I have better alternatives available. I am also running Spyware Doctor 5.0 and have been quite please with it!
Also looking for this software to provide me with Wi-Fi security while in public places, such as airports and cafes as well.

I use KasperSky antivirus - very very efficient virus scanning software, won a lot of notable awards and is used heavily in easten europe. Check out their page here. As for a firewall just use zonealarms free firewall - it's more than adequate. With those two running along side each other and a competent user behind the computer you should have no problems.

Sensible is:
. make sure that the hotspots are legitimate
. turn off file sharing on ur system
. use a virtual private network (vpn) when possible
. password protect ur personal data
. encrypt anything that is personal BEFORE sending out
. ur virus scanner uptodate
. watch over ur shoulder, some funny characters snoofing around?
. other ???

Symantec Corporate disables Windows Defender. Does any one know if Symantec malware protection works better than Windows defender?
And is Symantec Corporate better than Avast for virus protection? -

You do not state whether you are running XP or Vista; it makes a difference on my recommendations.
If you are running XP, the ZoneAlarm Security Suite you already have is quite good; it is not so good on Vista. -
I am running XP on all of my systems.

There is nothing wrong with the ZoneAlarm Security Suite on XP.

the very best option in my opinion is just proactive self defense..........watch what pages you visit, scan files you download with some sort of anti-virus, and if you really want too, setup some sort of dedicated firewall, not something that runs on the same computer you are trying to protect....
but for most of us, the simple anti-virus scan, deleting cache, watching what programs we download/install, and which pages we visit is suffice. I use kaspersky anti-virus, only because its what I have been using since I upgraded to road runner.... -
Zonealarm and nod32
and you can get some free antispyware -
For XP, ZoneAlarm 7 is quite good and its anti-virus engine is actually based on Kaspersky's. For Vista, however, I use combination of Nod32 and the free version of ZoneAlarm (until Comodo comes out of beta testing anways).

How is Nod32? I have used it before, but it has been quite a while now. Is it still a good anti-virus program?
-
Nod32 is still a very good anti-virus application. I use it and like it very well!

Thanks for the link bigspin! That is a pretty informative link and definitely answers some questions I had about my Zone Alarm Pro 7 Firewall. Also, it shows me which viable options I have if I decide to switch.

Funny to hear that you don't know about NOD..Are you from MARS -

Comodo could be of interest to me when it is upgraded to support Vista.
-
plattnnum, NOD32 is made by ESET and has been a very well respected anti-virus program for quite some time now.
-
NOD32 is not that well known to non-IT people. Its not a very easy interface which could be intimidating to some people, nor does it have the huge sales engine that symantec has.
I use Kasperskey Web Security 7.0, but mainly cause it was FAR from staples. -
Anyone reading this might be interested in my test results.
NOD32, Norton, McAfee, Antivir PE, AVG Free, Avast all failed!
