    Hello people's

After using AVG for a number of years I decided to change my AV protection to Avast. Just for the heck of it.

Surprise, surprise: My lappie seems to run quicker. It is almost like Avast does not interfere as much as AVG when using my lappie...

And it found a Trojan that AVG missed.

Still testing it here. But so far, I am impressed.

Any comments from you folks out there?? :)

    Cheers,
    Theo

From personal testing, I dropped AVG about 2 years ago. Now I'm with Avira, I had also tried out Avast but it just didn't catch as much as Avira and it just doesn't look as nice.

yes . dropped AVG after 9 years use . Avast seems much better than AVG 8 , I've installed it on over 20 customers comps , so far no complaints and no infections .

Are you guys talking about free programs? are you comparing the free edition of AVG with Aviast free download or professional. Just wanted to clarify...

for me it's both . the only dif between free avast and pro is scheduling scans/updating capabilities , not much else . AVG PRO was the same .

I don't think it really makes much a difference. While in the recent tests AVG is not as good as Avira in terms of detection, the free addition of AVG contains anti-spyware, while the free addition of Avira doesn't.

Well, both AVG and Avast are the free editions.

Compared to Norton (which I subscribed to for years and paid through the nose for AV that slowed my computer down) AVG was like a breath of fresh air.

Now Avast appears to be even more capable and less intrusive than AVG.

Still testing here - but so far I am mightily impressed with Avast

    Cheers,
    Theo

I've used avast for several years and it's saved me on more than one occasion. I tried Avira which I also read is very good and less resource heavy but I know for a fact avast does work because i've seen it in action.

I ran with Avast for about 2 years and then just switched to Avira. Both have worked well for me, but this forum caused me to look harder at Avira due to the lower resource requirements and I was having conflicts with Avast's Outlook plugin. All 4 of my home computers run with Avira now with the hack to keep the pop-ups away. You might want to give Avira a whirl too.

I was forced to switch, the latest versions of AVG and Avira froze up my unit. Very satisfied with Avast, less intrusive than other two. The control center takes some time to get used to.

Yeah, I really dig Avast! Just install the minimum package sans media-controlleresque skin.

Except for the pop up ad during updates that you can disable, I'm not sure how Avira is more intrusive than Avast, or why Avira froze your unit. Regardless, Avast appears a quality product.

Best thing...Avast listenes to me when I turn things off.

Lot's of things I don't use. AVG 8 would not allow me to decide.

    Avast does.

    Still happy with the switch.

    Cheers,

I noticed that Avast! also installs a screensaver that will scan your computer while it's idle.

I like Avira's low resource usage.
