First step is to run an anti-virus and spyware scan.

I'd use Avira AntiVir instead of AVG and Malwarebytes'Antimalware for an extra spyware scan.
Make sure to uninstall AVG before installing Avira though.
Check my signature for download links.

There are a lot of programs and I mean normal reputable programs that make use of (sometimes really unexpected) sound notifications, Avast AntiVirus for instance.
Have you installed any new programs recently which might account for the 'ding-ding&music'?

Do you install a lot of free java games and stuff like that from the internet? I have to clean out my sisters computer bi-monthly because she installs dozens of them. All of which come attached with adware that will result in odd behavior (sometimes sound). Oddly, the adware they come attached with are never caught by her anti-adware program... Probably because they are legitimate games with the adware integrated.

I'd start by uninstalling any random internet junk that is residing on the computer. Then check out the active processes. Look them all up on google and see if they belong to this type of program.

The sudden slow boot up and slow computer is probably because you installed the antispyware 'thing'. The program is scanning your computer.
Have you scanned with Avira or maybe Kaspersky Online Scanner?

However, the information you posted is still not much to go on.
If these programs (Avira, Kaspersky, SAS and MBAM) can't clean your notebook, download HijackThis from TrendMicro here; link.
Create an account on Castlecops here; link and follow their procedure exactly.
    Cheers.
