How can I remove the McAfee that came installed with DEL Studio 15 /indows 7. I have heard that this kind of program doesn't always remove completely so I advice on procedure before I try.

    Advice will be appreciated,

It use to be that way a long time ago. Security companies got a nice backlash from customers back in the day. I don't think that is the case anymore.

Is it simply a matter of using add/remove programs?

There are two McAfee programs in Add/Remove programs: Virtual Technician and Security Center. Does it make a difference which one I uninstall first?

Should I shut the programs down before uninstalling? If so, how?

You shouldn't have to shutdown the programs....

I assume they are two separate programs.

    What Tinderbox_(UK) said.

Also, replace McAfee with a free suit like Microsoft Security Essentials.
Far more effective and very light on the system.

I went to Add/Remove programs and told it to remove McAfee Virtual Technician. It has been running for 2 hours now. At some point I will have to push [cancel]

Actually, there was a message-box under the add/remove window where I couldn't see it. It required permission for McAfee to access the internet. Once I found it and said OK the uninstall finished up.

Problem solved: I used add/remove programs to uninstall everything McAfee. Then I downloaded MCPR.EXE from the McAfee website. It removed a lot of additional files that McAfee had put there. Then I downloaded and installed Microsoft Security Essentials.

    FYI (being with Windows 7)
Before removal of McAfee, Windows Explorer showed a different number of files in a folder (1 versus 4) depending the path to the folder. In one case explorer went to C:\Users\Stan\My Videos\, and in the other case explorer went through the library \Stan Hilliard\My Videos\. The access permissions along those two paths must have been different. Now I can see four files by both methods.
