Wanting to switch to Free AV and was thinking of the following setup...will this work?

    - AVG 2011
    - Malwarebytes
    - KeyScrambler 2.7.1.0
    - spybot search and destroy

Am I missing anything? Should I use comodo firewall or does AVG have one? Or is Windows Firewall good?

Also, is Download.com a good / safe place to download all of this?

    Thanks

Windows firewall + MSE is enough for home usage, you can add malwarebytes if you really want to. You shouldn't need keyscrambler since that only helps if you have a keylogger/virus already on the machine, which means your primary defenses were already breached and keyscrambler itself might have been affected.

MSE and Win firewall is good enough. But recently I moved to Comodo CIS and am so far very pleased. I did that more of curiosity than some real need.

AVG free has no firewall built in, only the 'top of the line" paid version has it.
Free software downloads and software reviews - CNET Download.com
Yes this is a safe place to download from.
I have the same setup as Hakira and it works well with an older dell (Vista) (D610) with 2 GIG ram; as well as win 7 on my other machine.
Just the fact you ask first is a cautious move, great!
If you install MB, make sure to update regularly the free version does not update automatically.

I would suggest MSE + Firewall. I personally have a USB drive with multiple antiviruses like Spybot. If you have a USB I'd suggest using it for this.

Otherwise I'd say get rid of malwarebytes and leave spybot since spybot has the immunization function.

I forgot to mention this will be for my work computer and I often plug my customers usb drives and sd cards into which may or may not be infected...does this change any of your recommendations?

MSE has an option to scan USB drives (in Advanced settings) and it actually saved me once from my own stick that was infected by a rather nasty piece of malware. Then I did a research and apparently more and more viruses and trojans are distributed on USB drives so this option should be always on (and it isn't by default in MSE)

This particular malware was in a hidden fake Recyclebin folder with permissions that needed to be changed in order to even see it. MSE cought it while I was merely copying everything from the stick onto my disk in order to format it (it had my BIOS flash files on it that I needed for some testing). I was quite happy since I was like 100% it was clean and it wasn't.

On the other hand some people say MSE is very slow on USB scanning.
