I'm not sure what AV to go with yet. Im leaning towards a free version of Avira. But I am just wondering how you guys have gotten viruses?

I would think if your downloading off of limewire everyday you would be prone to viruses. I am a bit of noob :p ... I'm just wondering if I really have to spend money on an AV.

If you practice safe surfing your chances of infections goes way down. Don't open email your not sure about, stay away from file sharing sites as well as pron sites.

Keep your AV software up to date. I use Avira because of it's high detection rate, low resources and oh yeah it's free. :D

I surf a lot - but typically not to questionable sites (even though I used to do a lot of, well, "adult" sites!) and have never had a problem with my router firewall and all of the great freeware available now.

    I used Norton.

Wouldn't have known about it hadn't I made the switch to freeware security apps. Currently, I'm using Avira along with a few anti-malware apps and I feel more protected than I ever did with Norton.
