I did a search for something on Google. When I clicked on a link, Avast blocked it.

However, ever since my internet connection has seemed sluggish.

I ran Malwarebytes and Spybot, Malwarebytes did not find anything. Spybot did find a few things I removed. None of the seemed out of the ordinary.

I was watching a video on CBS.com and above the video box the following message appeared in yellow.

"You have earned 5 coins" with a coin logo. I don't believe it had anything to do with CBS.com.

Was my system hijacked to mine Bitcoins?

I'd reset the browser to default IE or Firefox ect,,conduit and others hijack startup pages and search and some make popups, they are installed with other software, bad trend.

    Cheers

Sounds more like the site you were at was sending you ads to click on and I hope you didn't click on those ads as that is a sure fire way to get malware and adbots on your computer. At that point you going to have to do alot of under hood cleaning to get rid of that problem. But what broswer were you using with avast blocked it and what O/S are you running? I think the problem might be related to Avast if the slow down happened after Avast did what it did but we need more info as to the sight and what version of Avast your using. Try running your system in Safe Mode and do a full scann and see what you come up with and if the internet is fast and no slow down then something has taken over your system files and will need a full wipe and reinstall but make sure to save your data/file before doing so.

It is actually "CBS Rewards" program they are running. As you watch videos you earn rewards.
