Ok now i KNOW its avg.....

paying attention to the last thing windows tries to load before failing during safe mode boot, AVGIDSEH.sys is the last thing before BSOD

Ok I had this problem too I just fixed it, I had no recovery image either

    1) Download the AVG Recovery CD at:
Free Antivirus | Forum - How To Disable AVG When The Operating System Cannot Be Started Properly

Once you boot up your PC off of the CD, select the first option. When the program loads go to
    Utilities --> File Manager

    from there go to

    mnt
sda# (usually 1 will be your windows partition)

    2) Go to your Program Files(x86) and rename the AVG folder by hitting F6 while highlighting the folder and name it to "garbage" or something

    3) Restart your PC

    4) Once in windows, rename that "garbage" folder back to AVG

    5) Download the following removal tool program for your windows (32 or 64 bit)
    http://www.avg.com/us-en/download-tools

    6) Let the PC restart and all should be good

PROBLEM SOLVED! Used your method of renaming program folder.
Undid changes to system files first so i could single out the problem...
I guess its all just stupid AVG

what should I do with the program now? Im really lost...should I update to a newer version? or just screw avg and uninstall it?

If I was in your shoes, I'd simply replace it with MSE, Avira or Avast (all of which are better and lighter than AVG).

    yeah it is 100% avg

just renaming the folder fixes it

a lot of people have trusted Avira from what I understand, should hit that program up

I personally am just going to wait for AVG to fix

Thanks everyone! I just corrected the same issue AVG hosed Windows 7, but the XP machine did the update fine. I am done with AVG, it is too bloated and I am tired of the constant "Upgrade" pop-ups from it anyway. I appreciate your help!

I am very glad to see this problem solved. Kudos to the contributors here.

I had this problem this morning, and upon starting it in safe mode realized AVG was causing the problem. I did a quick check on the forum to see how common this is... Wow! I can't believe AVG even exists, to be completely honest. How many low-level users are out there that have had AVG put on their computer by a tech-savvy friend/family member/co worker? This is ridiculous!

On a sidenote, in W7 you get a great variety of tools built-in for troubleshooting. Hold F8 on the POST screen until you see your options, and hit Enter on the Repair option. You'll need to logon, but from there if you go into the Command Prompt, you can just rename the AVG folder and not hassle with downloading the AVG Repair tool. The commands are different in the Windows console than Linux (which threw me for a major loop), so here is what I used:

    cd /d C:
    cd Program Files (x86)
    rename avg poop

You can replace poop with garbage or anything else. The original solution uses garbage, I use poop.

Boot up computer, and follow instructions from original contributor on removing AVG.

Not trying to hijack the solution, I give you 100% credit. Just thought I'd add my two cents, as I really didn't want to mess with downloading the AVG tools.

Well, not sure where I went wrong but I couldn't figure out how to do it using the method explained here.

Instead, I ended up pulling the hard drive and mounting it on an external docking station so I could go inside and change the folder name. :D

I was trying to use your method but I got stuck when you said
    "mnt
sda# (usually 1 will be your windows partition)"

I assumed "mnt sda#" meant select the "Mount" option which is suppose to Re-mount Windows Volumes.

When I selected the Mount option, the system did perform an operation but then it just went back to the Main Menu screen shown on this link below (see 2nd pic on link)
    Main Menu Screen.
I was expecting to see some Windows Volumes that I could select from, after selecting "Mount" option. But I didn't see anything. It just stayed in the same Main Menu screen.

    Since I got stuck there, I could not perform step two, which is;

"2) Go to your Program Files(x86) and rename the AVG folder by hitting F6 while highlighting the folder and name it to "garbage" or something"

What exactly did I miss?

    I see.
So after Utilities-->File Manager, then go to step 2 right?

Looks like several people were affected by this problem.
So how did this AVG error happened?
    Was it an update error?

I remember yesterday, before the problem, AVG performed an update automatically.
I saw the "need to restart" window afterwards, by I postponed it because I was in the middle of something. Later on upon restart, I got the blue screen error.

For a moment, I thought I was going to have to perform a clean OS.

I'm glad I found this thread I few hours later. :)

How do I rename the AVG folder in Program Files (x86)? If I hit F6, I get a dialog box with the title "Move", and 2 teal/turquoise boxes in the dialog box, along with other options.

Wow, thanks for the alternate Command Prompt method. I was trying to boot from disk but was having problems doing it with my flash drive. This thing gave me a headache all night, I'm glad to see it gone. Deffinetly going back to Avast. Thanks everyone!

When you hit F6, the "cursor" will default to the correct box. Just type a new name and hit enter and you're done

Neverind my question. I took a chance and just typed in "poop" in the second teal/turquoise box, and it worked. I have now uninstalled AVG and am running in Windows 7.

Edit: I just saw your post right above this one, danyune. That's exactly what I did.

well Im glad I'm not the only one , and a solution was pretty easily found.

what a headache though spent a good 5 hours researching everywhere and trying everything.

to make matters worse today my desktop doesnt work. Strangest problem i've ever seen, I press the power button and the computer boots up for literally 1 SECOND and then shuts down.

yeah unfortunately i was one of the first affected, I restarted immediately since I wasn't doing anything waiting for GSL to start (SC2 in Korea)

So there weren't any posts about fixing it, I had to look thru many posts to figure out the best solution. At first I was just trying to get AVG fixed to work, then decided to just figure out how to load up windows to uninstall, which was much easier

So I am experiencing this problem and I am an AVG user.
Seeing that these are all from 2010 and it is 2011 I am not sure if my problem relates to avg.

I am currently trying to solve this issue as if it were an issue with AVG....
I'm still learning so sorry for being an idiot..

I can get to /mnt/sda1 but program files is not an option my only options are

    /..
    /$recycle.bin
    /boot
    /system volume information
    *system
    *bootmgr

I cant find program files in sda 1 or any other sda
I am running windows 7 pro on a hp probook
    any info is extremely helpful!

f8 also won't open any option for me..strange

It is possible that AVG is acting up again, so it's a good place to start.

It has been so long since I used that disc that I don't remember where I found Program Files. I do remember that it wasn't in mnt/sda for me, though, so look around in all the folders. It might be in any of the folders you listed that showed up. IIRC, it was deeper than an sda folder, so look inside them.

If you need me to, I'll look using my disc, but I'm too lazy right now

I just tried it on both my laptop and one of my desktops. Program Files was in /mnt/sda2 both times.

Make sure your BIOS is detecting your hard drive. If you try to let Windows load, does it show the logo for even a very short amount of time?

hmmm sda2 is completely empty for me. I loads the graphic and then just goes straight back to the login screen.

It seems like its detecting my hard drive..
Is it possible to explain how I make sure it is?
    thanks

I did a little bit of investigating and under /mnt not /mnt/opt
    there is.../opt
    clicking /opt gives you
    /..
    /avg
    /bin
    /lib

    Is that avg useful?

If it is able to fully load Windows and only fails at the login screen, I don't think you're having the same problem as described in this thread. Do you mean that it shows it is loading Windows and then restarts itself?

If anything Windows-related shows on the screen, your hard drive is definitely detected.

so I think either avg or this hp security upgrade was the culprit.
It asks me to log into windows... which I do. It shows the windows animation then goes blank for a moment while the blue screen with the c00 error flashes (for a split second I had to take a picture of my screen to read it)then asks me to log in again...(infinite loop).
I've checked just about everything in mnt multiple times..
Any idea if the avg in /opt would help?

I've also run the following tests through hp advanced system diagnostics
    TuneUp: Passed
    Start-Up: Passed
    Hard Disk: Passed

This is the kind of stuff that makes you want to throw it all out and build a log cabin somewhere in the woods!

i signed up just to reply since i got same problem today after i tried to restart. But heres the thing, i am not currently using AVG so for all you people that think the "c0000135 %hs is missing" problem is from AVG your wrong. Maybe some of you. I read so many posts on my pad to see some kind of solution but "windows restore" "delete avg files" "load drivers" "last known config" etc etc etc none of those solutions worked for me. So what i tried is 1)load win7 disk 2)restart from dvd 3)Select Repair 4)Select Command Prompt 5) type in bootsect.exe /nt60 c: then restart. My pc restarted and im typing to you now. May not fix everyone's problem,BUT if you tried all the other google solutions and didnt work maybe this will help one person. Good Luck.

Ive just had this happen with AVAST Anti virus. Have tried Lexington Computers (there was no error in the reg) and the AvG boot CD to rename the Avast folder.

As another site recommended, I performed a scan. A fix txt file needs to be created to fix my problem

    Results here:

    http://www.sendspace.com/file/moofv6

    Please help

    PROGRESS UPDATE:

I browsed to my System32 folder, found winsrv.dll copied and renamed it consrv.dll and the PC now boots to the windows welcome screen (safemode only). Once I enter the password, a new bsod prevails (STOP: c000021a {Fatal System Error)...

You could try to repair your OS using your OS CD/DVD before going for a reinstall.
What OS and service pack do you use? Any of this info useful to you?; link, link
Keep in mind that a reinstall (when you have your data backed up properly) is usually much faster than searching for solutions and applying 'fix-it' options scattered all over the web/fora and/or deep scanning with several AV/AM programs.
If you do a reinstall, make sure to use a full format instead of a quick format before actually reinstalling the OS, so your MBR will be cleared/rewritten also.

Thank you very much for this post! I had ms secuirty essentials find a trojan and I clicked to remove it. After that my computer shut down and would not restart at all, kept getting the non page fault error and a stop code. My computer wouldn't even start up in safe mode. I did what you wrote but I didn't use a cd I just went into the command prompt screen. It has now started back up and I hope I can get rid of this trojan.
