    Hello There!
I would like to get the opinions of as many people as I can. Which AV program(s) do you prefer and why?

What gets the job done best?

    Thanks!

MSE: Light, you don't even notice it's there ans as long as you don't do anything stupid it's more than enough protection.
Avast!: More resource intensive than MSE, but also a bit more robust.

Both are free and i haven't caught anything that i am aware of yet, but i usually visit the same few websites and avoid clicking on anything i'm unsure of.

I use Avira free edition, because it's a reliable software.

MSE is also pretty good for those who DO things that might be classified as 'stupid'.

However, an AV is an AV...
It is recommended to use Malwarebytes as an on-demand scanner as well and scan once per month... or just during times your AV detected something (in case it might have missed - Avast can do this just as easily as MSE, but I will agree that Avast seems to incorporate a bit more robust protection).

I've been using MSE for just about two years. That bundled with Malwarebytes software, I've had no problems whatsoever.

A list by one of the members of the wilders security forums:
    Antivirus
    Nice options are:
Panda Cloud Antivirus Free for its low system impact.
    Avast for its comprehensive protection.
Roboscan Free Internet Security for using BitDefender's engine and still being free.

Call me odd , I use Trusport , just AV no extra bloat , also use outpost firewall and spywareblaster . Have yet to have a problem . Used Avira for years , but bloat got the better of it , I don't like all in one packages , they always have one or 2 weak points . I'd rather assemble my own package of software I think is solid .
And I rarely run scans , I thought the AV was supposed to catch it before it infects ? If you're infected seems the AV is not doing it's job .

Any AV will not catch everything, and different AVs will catch and let pass different viruses. An anti-virus is doing it's job if it's catching most viruses. Heuristics aren't foolproof so any new virus has a chance of getting through too. Then there is a downside to having a more aggressive AV that might detect a little more: false positives.

Comodo Internet Security - since it is very low on resources, and offers great protection. Very good firewall inside too. New version 6 is coming soon and it has a very powerful process explorer called Killswitch integrated plus fully virtaulized processes and even virtualized desktop called Kiosk. Very good 0-day protection along with signature based detection that is also good now. Free for commercial too.

In my opinion Immunet plus is the best. Because it is light, fast and provides full protection from bots, viruses, worm, trojans, keyloggers and spyware. I’m using this since last year and totally satisfied from it.

Eset NOD32...i think it's the perfect blend between lightweight and getting the job done. A close second would be F-Secure, call me old fashioned.

Just got my new Horize P150HM Notebook!

Avast combined with Malwarebytes would be my recommendation.

If a higher level (as in "paid" AV) of security is called for, Kaspersky would be my weapon of choice.

    As always, YMMV.
