    Do we need anti-virus or other security software for vista?

    Vista looks pretty safe, with UAC, firewall, seems viruses can't do much harm
    How safe is vista actually is? if I use it carefully (not opening unknown files)?
    what if I'm using it without security sense?
    How many viruses are out there?
    have you ever caught any?

    how many viruses? thats like asking how many crooks are out there.

    i have had heaps of viruses. on vista as well. do your laptop a favour and get some protection. have a look at the free windows software thread.

    just to get it straight. i am not a nazi :mad: i am half german.........

    heinz guderian (the general in my avatar) was a nazi, yes. but he was one of the few that didn't get charged for any war crimes. he was one of the most brilliant tactitions of the 20th century and is the mastermind of combined arms warfare and ultimately the blitzkrieg. in otherwords, a military genius.

    i don't support war, i don't support nazism. i have been to europe and seen those fields myself. i have been to turkey, to the beaches there with thouseand of anzac graves. i march every anzac day, with medals of both my grandfathers, one german, and one australian.

    guderian was an honourable man that fought bravely for his country. he was one of the few generals that directly opposed hitler. and for that he didn't receive promotion to fieldmarshall, and lost his leadership of panzergroupen 2 when they where on the outskirts of moscow. he wasn't a fanatical nazi. he was just a man that followed his career with honour and dignity.

    i have his photo as my avatar, because of his intelligence, he had a great military mind and i have a great respect for that.

    *ahem* anyway in terms of anti-virus....yes Baserk you're dead right, it's about what you do to prevent virus not what you need. I personaly used Windows Defender and ONLY windows defender for the past 4 years... my desktop still runs virus free with all the surfing I do (and YES I go to pr0n sites) , but I guess it's about going to trusted safe sites for these kinda stuff. Not trying to influence people here to watch pr0n but lol in terms of getting the safety AND the *good stuff* , I'd suggest hitting on Forums and discussion communities > actual pr0n sites.

    i wanna say following: being a Russian, i can say that Guderian was a brilliant general, even in some russian tank academies his books are examined, also as Franz Halder's military diaries.
