This static read-only archive was pulled by NBR forum users between January 20 and January 31, 2022, in an effort to make sure that the valuable technical information that had been posted on the forums is preserved. For current discussions, many NBR forum users moved over to NotebookTalk.net after the shutdown.

    Sure, it's fine to ditch AV on Windows...

    ...so long as you are very careful what websites you visit, don't let anyone else touch your computer, and have really good hardware and software network security devices ;)

    Easier said then in real life malware are waiting for such users that go this route. Don't let someone else touch-that's a inside the box thinking and will never work in real life. In the end if they are the admin user no amount of hardware will work if they permit the access from sites to their computer. If you really want good security Password protect the Admin account and make a User limited account and use that and should you get malware then log in as Admin and wipe clean that account and recreate the Limited User again will go alot further but to think not using A/V like MSE/Defender is very short shortsightedness thinking that malware/virus would gladly sit right next to you at your computer.
