I am using Windows 7 Pro x64 and installed NIS 2009 when I first got my new machine a few days ago. I tried to install the software when logged in with an administrator account but I got an error message saying something to the effect that this software is not compatible with my OS. Then I created a Standard user account an tried to install NIS 2009 again. This time it installed it with no complaints. The program seems to be working fine and is getting it's dat updates. I wanted to ask you guys if the way I did this compromised the install at all and if I am fully protected. Thanks.

It seems to me that it was installed correctly. Not sure about the protection since I don't use this security app.

Strange that it flagged as incompatible under administration mode. Have you contacted the support site?

Hi Padme. Thanks for your reply. I have looked on the support site for Norton and didn't find anything concrete on it. One of the things that I read was that NIS 2009, when running in Win 7, will get a patch downloaded automatically from Norton. I am not sure how this makes sense if you can't even install the program??

In any event I was able to install the program under my standard user and was worried that since I did this under my standard user, and not admin, that it might not have installed correctly?(i.e did not have proper permissions so files might have been created where they needed to).

Don't know if I have anything to worry about. So far everything with NIS 2009 seems great(a TON of options) but when I see NIS 2010 free for NIS 2009 users I will upgrade to that.

Any other advice? Am I ok?

Well, the only way to find out if your install was incorrect is to run it through its paces..... I doubt its integrity was compromised as if it doesn't install properly the first time, the changes are rolled back.
