I've been looking into some firewall apps for my computer (vista 32) and i'm interested in comodo pro 3.0 but i've heard that many people were having crippling problems with it and decided to stay away until i heard about the problems stopping.

Now i've heard about problems stopping but i'm not so sure because it was only like one user who said he didn't have any more problems.

So tell me your experience with comodo pro 3.0 so i can finally know for once and for all if the problems have stopped. Thanks.

(in case I haven't told you before) My computer crashed a day or two after installing comodo. Had to fully restore my C: from December 2007 and lost all my important documents

I have had absolutely no problems with it (Vista 32 also). It just took a while for me to figure it out after being used to ZoneAlarm.

I think you should probably check the Comodo forums. It seems like many people dropped Comodo.

I suppose it does require regular user interaction. Still, it has served me well, and I maintain that it is better than ZoneAlarm, the only other firewall I have tried. I'm going to try Online Armour after reading some other discussions on this forum.

What PC do you have? How much resources does it take up? 'Cause system slowdowns? Mess with your torrent speeds?

Thanks for the clarification. Sounds like everyone has bad experience with comodo. I think i'll just have to keep on using the default windows firewall. :(

No, Calvin, Comodo is different. The app "learns" your preferences as you use it, and it's clever enough to learn quickly. I use Comodo with XP so am unsure how it works with Vista, but tom717 just posted that he's had no problems.

I just got the machine I'm now using and haven't yet installed Comodo. If you're interested, I will and then get back to you with my own thoughts about Comodo/Vista.

Yes, please do that. Thanks for the help. I know comodo was great on xp, but i've heard so many horror stories about it on vista.

I was one of the users who had problems with the initial release of comodo version 3. However since then they have released 2 new builds; the latest one (which is 3.0.15.277) works just fine on my notebook (vista). Of course I am not running defense+(disabled) as that module IMO is more trouble than it is worth but the firewall is working just fine now. :)

Just like all other firewalls it will spend the first few days learning what programs need to access the internet this is so comodo can learn and save the settings. To speed up the process I even manually added some programs to the allow list so that comodo won't ask me when I run them.

i concurred that comodo 3.0.15.277 worked quite well with my ultimate. I did have defence all, just to see what was going behind the scene.

Current vista security set up = comodo firewall (&defence) + avast virus + vista firewall

    cheers ...

qhn why would u run 2 firewalls? that doesn't make sense to me. I am running comod with Vista home premium..so far no problems..but who knows. I REALLY REALLY wish i could use Kerio 2.1.5 still. And let me ask..is the Vista firewall that bad? I know the Windows one sucked, but easy is it to configure the Vista one so your IMs move fast and your torrents also? I have my router all set up fine already.

I would love to just use the Vista one if it is faster and as efficient..I currently have defense+ off in comodo also.

It is, Calvin, and I'm sorry for not replying sooner - I forgot about this thread. Damn, that's the poorest excuse there is. Ugh.

So far, Comodo has worked just as well as it does on the XP machine. Occasionally, I get the little balloon asking if I want to allow an app to connect, but then that's the end of the issue. And there have been no problems of any sort to report.

BTW, and for whatever it's worth, I ran across an app called Threat Fire, a sort of . . . supplement (?) for AV programs. I've installed it, and it doesn't seem to clash with Comodo or any other app, but because I've had no issues, can't really tell how affective it is - that's the way it's supposed to work, actually. No warnings, beeps, balloons, and no malware on the machine! LOL

Edit: forgot to mention that during installation of Comodo onto the XP machine, I seem to remember being asked if I wanted to have the Windows Firewall turned off to allow Comodo to install. The app installed on the Vista machine must be a slightly newer version; that question wasn't asked and the app installed perfectly. Not earthshaking info, I suppose, but a slight difference from what I remember of the earlier install.

Alright. I'm still a little iffy but it seems comodo is fine to use now. I'll use it and see what happens. Thanks for the feedback guys. I'm going to do a system restore checkpoint and hope nothing goes wrong.

Very nice! I've been using comdo and it's great. I've also been using threatfire with it and my internet speeds have increased. Defense+ isn't annoying, or causes any bugs. No crashes or anything. I have windows firewall disabled, and along with windows defender.

@Calvin been using Comodo since release v2.on XP then v3.14 and now 3.15 builds on Vista. Problems arise when you dont take time out to read up on the program before hand.
I would say to anyone looking to get a firewall checkout Comodo v3 BUT disable its Defense+ this is the real problem it take some getting used to.. Vista updated fine for myself and their forum https://forums.comodo.com/help_for_v3-b105.0/ has good source of knowledge on setting up and controlling the ports on this firewall.
Also you can import and export your firewall settings...(Backup)
    Welcome to the Comodo Crew..

One last note I have always found this (CFW) easy on the system resources !

i would like NOT to, but even though i have been using vista from day 1 and so far it had not giving me any reasons to be concerned, I still learn about the behaviour of vista when taking any of its components out (firewall in this case). I had the uac off after one week after determining that it woould not affect the performance.

u were right about the main thing was a lean and efficient system. I would take vista firewall out eventually. But currently want to test and see how other firewall/antivirus apps working with vista w/o killing the performance - main reason for the comodo and avast!

    cheers ...

You should really turn of the vista firewall. It'll increase your internet speeds greatly.

Agreed..it is overly paranoid and counter productive to run the Vista firewall plus Comodo.

Another thing i noticed is that my speed gets faster when i have defense+ off. I just let threat fire handle everything.

@Calvin: no speed/performance degratation having vista (ultimate) firewall and comodo so far

@Orlando Guy: not necessarily being paranoid or counterproductive; as I stated in my post - I like to see what Comodo tells me about outgoings that Vista Firewall had been silent so far, to understand the way vista works. And yes, under XP i only used Comodo and Avast, NO windows firewall.

    cheers ...

No problem on main page of CFW go to Proactive Defense screen. Now Defense+ security level set to hit the hypelink and then disable from there .PC needs a restart to complete the cycle.. :)
