I just installed comodo pro on my system, and was wondering if Avast is compatible running along with it. I thought I read somewhere that you shouldn't have two antivirus scanners at the same time. Is it true? What about spyware scanners. Is it advised to have more than one. Im using spybot right now, but was thinking of installing A squared along with it. Thanks.

From what I've read over at the Comodo forum CFP and Avast work fine together. It's been said if you run two of any real time scanners together they can conflict. You can run CFP, Avast, and A2, real or on-demand, without any conflicts.

Two other alternative free, on-demand, anti antispyware programs are SuperAntiSpyware and Malware Bytes. However, both offer paid real time protection. SAS has an inexpensive lifetime license rather than yearly subscription.

PS In lieu of having SASPro, Malware Bytes Anti-malware (free) and a free one year subscription to A2 (give away of the day a few weeks ago) I uninstalled Spybot. Also, I've run SAS and A2 real time together without noticing any conflicts. A2 is a little more intrusive, with a few false positives but it updates frequently and looks like a good program.

I think you will be fine running both. After all, Comodo specializes in firewall protection more so than actual virus protection IMO. And I have ran it along w/ an antivirus program myself. So you should be okay!

    thanks for the replies.

how would you know that these scanners would happen to 'conflict'?

Only by what I've gleaned from the forums. No one has ever recommended running two AV's. Apparently each may work against each other, possibly allowing infections. That said, I had CFP running along with Windows FW and SAS and A2 running at the same time. However, I think AV's are a different type of software more prone to "conflicts".

If you use CFP, Avast and SAS you'll be fine.

BTW, if you're under the impression CFP is also an AV that's not entirely true. It will scan your system upon installation to double check for virus and malware, and it can be run as a on demand scanner but, it's not real time. Defense + with HIPS is a 1st step preventive which will monitor your system
