My Kaspersky Internet Security 2011 is about to expire and new licenses are stupid expensive. I can't remember where I bought my 2011 license but I remember getting it for under $10 as some sort of deal. I was hoping it was a recurring deal that someone might know about... Thanks in advance!

Well I can't help you on getting a cheap Kaspersky licence because paid protection software is something I simply don't do ... however, have you considered switching to a free AV?

In my personal experience, Internet security suites are very overrated.
I don't have any issues using MSE even when visiting 'shady' websites.

But that's just one of the examples.
If you decide to give a free solution a try, then pick one of the following:
    Avast, Avira, MSE, or Panda.

All can be get for free, they are low on system resources (don't slow you down) and quite effective (on par with paid solutions).

But if you do decide to stick with a paid internet suite, then I'd sooner recommend latest Norton... which might be cheaper and most definitely is better optimized (they rewrote the software for the better a couple of years ago).

I got Kaspersky Internet Security free form my bank, Barclay's as i have an online account, it`s just a standard account, I have been using it for years now, everytime it is due to expire, i just ask for a new key, online.

Also my Internet Provider TalkTalk , gives me F-Secure anti-virus as well with the package i am on, but i prefer Kaspersky.

Maybe your bank or internet provider does the same.

Deks - thanks for the suggestions, I'll probably go the free route since the only thing holding me back before was my past experience with free anti-virus was the fact that they used an insane amount of system resources and I went to paying for Kaspersky because it was low memory usage along with great scores for protection.

I'm surprised there aren't more banks giving free AV for their customers with the increase use of Internet banking. Sadly USAA offers no such perk that I can find.

Google is your friend; google Kaspersky Internet Security and rebate and you'll find f.i. KIS on NewEgg for $4.99 after mail-in rebate link.
Free security software ftw though. :)

Some free AV's were heavy on system resources back in the day... AVG most notably comes to mind (and still is).
Avira, Avast, MSE and Panda don't have these issues though and are very effective.

Kaspersky in my experience was actually a bit of a bloat... though I think it's been stated that it underwent a bit of an overhaul much like Norton - can't be sure though.

    As for Internet Banking.
It boils down to the security system that the bank itself implemented on their website and you not keeping sensitive banking info on your laptop.
Most free AV's (Avast free for example which seems to incorporate most shields) would likely end up your best bet in that regard though.

But keep in mind that no AV or Internet security suite can protect you from everything.
There is such a thing as 'common sense' which is essentially your first line of defense.

Implement ad blocking in your web browser and couple it with an decent free AV (one of the ones I suggested), and you will probably be fine.

My father does Internet Banking with MSE, windows firewall (Win 7) for a while now, and he hasn't been experiencing problems (except the technical ones procured by the bank itself).

One thing i don't like about "Kaspersky Internet Security" is that it stops windows system restore from working, I always get a restore failed, and i have tried this on multiple notebooks.
