I am getting this spyware/virus that opens up and runs a fake scan that says I have a virus and wants me to download sometype of spyware sofware.

If it helps the site is located at:

    /antispyware-scanner5.com

I ran spybot search and destroy, avast on demand scanner and CC Cleaner.

This site still opens up every day or two.

I would prefer to use a free program.

Well. CCleaner is not responsible for VIRUS/SPYWARE.
Try Malwarebytes' Anti-malware and SUPERAntispyware. These 2 are the BEST on-demand scanner with is FREE.

    do you have a firewall?

Also try AVG free antivirus, I use it and never got a virus since.

Try install Avira Antivir Personal 9, update it and scan your computer.
You will notice bunch of viruses. XD
Tested on a machine with AVG FREE and found some viruses. Not sure about your machine. You can try though.

I will said it is USELESS(AVG).
However, some people claims that it is GODLIKE.
Yet, I have prove Avira is better than AVG many times.

Ohh... no... you are definitely hit by a fake anti-virus scam... i guess you're one of those folks who are highly dependent on I.E when connecting to web....

Anyway... just to share my experience here.
My aunt's computer was hit by the same "" you have encountered. And it is quite serious that this virus is a malware which will screw up your windows registry causing whatever security programs installed on your gear to fail- which includes real-time sscanning, updating, as well as on-demand scan.

So what i did was downloaded MalwareBytes, and install it in safe mode after reboot. In normal mode, i can't install MB at all.
Once installed, i do a fast scan, get the bugs, quarantine, remove it, then reboot into normal mode.
After reboot, i see that the Windows Security Center keep prompting me to install a protection program even though Avira had been installed for a long time. No point updating Avira, as the WSC will keep on showing the same notice again.

Malware Bytes will be the last few options available.
Forget about the Norman Malware Scanner, it's useless.

I remove this probably every other week from somebodys machine. They all use Facebook and MySpace. DUH!
Simply download and install Malwarebytes from malwarebytes.org.
Do the updates and boot to safe-mode w/networking
    Do a complete scan

If that dont remove it. Then its a format and install fresh Operating system.
Of course backup your data first.

    Best wishes
    N

Malware can sometimes also block the installation of (well known) security software.
If you have trouble installing a program like MBAM or SAS, it's worth a try to rename both the installer/setup program and to rename the ".exe" file of the security program.
F.i., when you have downloaded MBAM, you should rename mbam-setup.exe to ABC.exe, then install the program (by double-clicking ABC.exe).

Do not immediately run the program, close it and go to the MBAM folder under C:\Program Files, then rename MBAM.exe to ABCD.exe.
Only then run the program by double-clicking ABCD.exe.
Update it first and then run a scan.
    Cheers.

I would format the disk several times and do a clean install.

Avira is stronger than AVG. However, Avira has higher rate of FALSE POSITIVE too. Yet, it doesn't matter, you can adjust the Avira to not guard/read the specific FALSE POSITIVE files.
I used AVG FREE for years and changed to Avira. Now, I won't look at AVG FREE again and the AVG Paid version(don't even want to know how great is it).
