AVG is as good as Norton, Windows Defender is as good as Norton. It doesn't take much to be as good as Norton. For something better than Norton, I'd recommend Avast ( www.avast.com) and Spybot: Search & Destroy ( www.safer-networking.org).

    I prefer ClamAV.

When I used AVG, I was getting a ton of false positives. Still, anything is better than running with only Windows Defender.

I liked ClamAV, but had a lot of compatibility problems with it last time I tried it. Maybe it's time to give it another look.
