Perhaps the Windows firewall is enough even if not watching outbound comms?

    Read the sticky: http://forum.notebookreview.com/showthread.php?t=190538

I recommend Comodo Firewall Pro. It also comes with Defense+ (HIPS Protection) that can be a pain to use, but help a lot. I personally don't use it, but some do. You should read up on it before using Defense+, though. If you don't use it, you can just disable it and use the firewall portion of the program.

I recommend Comodo too. A huge number of options you can configure the way you want. The application is extremely boring sometimes with its warnings that appear every single minute, but on the other side, you are safe for any kind of entrance into your system.

    Full recommendation.

Comodo made my notebook blue screen if I tried to come out of hibernation.

    Try Online Armor.

Another vote for Comodo, but Online Armor and PC Tools Firewall Plus are good too.

    definitely Comodo firewall.

ZoneAlarm used to be good, but they gimped their recent free ones to not give you as great protection.

I use Comodo Firewall Pro. It is really easy, but it does sometimes get a bit annoying as you have to "train" it. Other than that though, it works really well, it is one of the best firewalls out there.

ZoneAlarm interfered with utorrent, causing utorrent to crash/freeze, as well as preventing it from hibernating/shutting down after all torrents completed.

At times it started taking lots of CPU resources, making the system EXTREMELY sluggish.

    No more ZoneAlarm for me!

Earlier you said Comodo was causing problems with hibernation. Ever think there's something else causing problems?

Comodo was causing blue screens when coming out of hibernation.

Zonealarm was preventing hibernation from taking place.

Both uninstalled, and using Norton Internet Security 2009 or Online Armor, I have neither of these problems.
