Hey guys, I'm getting a new laptop soon and just wanted some feedback on the best Antivirus, Anti-Spyware, Anti-Malware, Anti-Rootkit software(s) out there. It will be my first Windows 7 - 64 bit laptop and I've never used Vista before so finding the most compatible programs will be a pain. Therefore I want to get everything straightened out beforehand.

From my own research I've found "Avira" to be an extremely good (Free) Antivirus software. I currently use Nod32 Smart Security on my XP 32-Bit, and it works great besides slowing down boot up (but I don't know if thats my PC itself). I also use Spyware Doctor, and the free Malwarebytes for scans here and there.

Therefore I hope you guys/gals can pitch in, all opinions are appreciated. :D

Microsoft security essentials is good too (simple interface). You can get the Malwarebytes antimalware (additional option) for on-demand malware scan.

Is there any freeware Anti spyware/malware program with Real-Time protection? Or will I have to buy one?

I currently use Malwarebytes for scans here and there but I need real-time protection.

MSE, Avira, Avast, all have real time protection.

You could also try out ThreatFire. It's a real-time behavioural blocker that will scan downloaded files for potential dangerous actions and block them if deemed suspicious.

However, depending on your browsing/downloading habits, a single AV like Avira, Avast or MSE, combined with an on-demand scanner like MBAM and SAS suffices for most users.
You might be interested in programs like SandboxIE if you want to download and run programs in a secure 'sandbox' which can be emptied after having tested/run the program.

But, as already mentioned, the single most important protection is you.

Not one program can protect against venturing into the dark side or f.i. installing cracks, keygens or whatever.

Aah yes, I've recently been hearing a lot about Sandboxie, I'll try it out on my XP just to get the hang of it.

Btw what do you guys think about Nod32 on Windows 7?
