for what it's worth I use NOD32 on Vista HP 64bit and whilst can't say for sure it's the best paid for AV I can say it is good and has a lot of recommendations on previous posts on NBR.

from most of the posts that i have read, eset nod32, avg, and avast seem to be the most popular. i was also wondering the same as u though, which is best for the money. i'm leaning towards buying the nod32 antivirus.

    why do you need to?

    avast 4 home (free)

pre boot scans (get viruses before windows even stats)
real live protection (eliminates downloads if there is a virus in the file)
auto updates (pretty Much Every Day)
backs up files in case a virus gets in it can restore the files

but if your using it for a buisness (only reason id pay) you can get a pro version of avast

what school is this if i may ask? my school requires all windows-based PCs to use anti-virus to log in to the wireless, but doesn't specified pay. they also offer a free copy of Norton Corporate, but i'm just fine with AntiVir.

as to the question - i've found KAV (just Kasperky Anti-Virus, not the entire suite) offers a minimal resource hit with very high detection/scanning rates. i've also heard great things about NOD32, but haven't tried it myself.

You can pull up a review comparison for this years versions and see how they rank.

Me personally? I have the brand new BitDefender Internet Security 2008. It works very well with Vista as opposed to the previous version which gave me a problem or two. This one seems much more refined. They have a good value deal on their site where you can download it without buying at a store.

Norton 2007 is not a good choice. Updates are infrequent and most viruses are programmed to shut down Norton. Norton also cripples a computer's performance

NOD32 based on especially dynamic scanning speed while opening files, surfing the web, etc. I am yet to find an AntiVirus application which is so fast. The speed difference between running applications with and without NOD32 enabled is quite small.

Avast is very nice, especially considering that it is free, but it (including many other AV programs) is much much slower when it comes to dynamic scanning speed.

Does anyone use Symantec AntiVirus 10.2 (corporate)? I hate Norton antivirus, but always liked the corporate version. Is this newest version still fast and free of bloatware?

I can get Symantec Corporate through my school for $5. Would it be any better than Avast or AVG's free offerings?

Norton might be OK in detecting viruses, but it is the worst resource hogger I’ve ever seen.

kaspersky and NOD32 are the best.

Here's the best site I have found for AntiVirus Application reviews/comparisons: http://www.av-comparatives.org/

Take a look and make your own decision. Don't just listen to people who state a name of an AntiVirus program without any argumentation.

The latest comparision they made was in May. Follow the link above (I cannot provide a direct link without an error) and click on "Comparatives" in the left menu.

And here is the supporting report for May: http://www.av-comparatives.org/seiten/ergebnisse/report14.pdf

I have used Mcafee Enterprise 8.5i and Symantec Antivirus 10.2 Corporate. Both are alright. Neither are that lightweight. Nothing can be as monstrous as Norton Internet Security.
